The counties share of the gas tax
revenues taken In by the state
highway department would be
boosted from 15.7 to 20 per cent,
and the minimum upped to $2,
800,000 from $2,000,000 under
the provisions of a bill before
the senate introduced by the
roads and highways commission.
The bill, originating with the
Association of Oregon Counties,
according to committee mem
bers, is a continuation of the bi
ennial struggle for a share of the
bountiful gas revenues.

In determining the high bid, the
rate for Douglas-fir only will
be considered. Bids with rates
in excess of those permissible
under MP R 460 will be reduced
to the allowable . maximum in
making the award. In addition
to the prices bid for the stump
age, a cooperative deposit of
$0.50 per M feet B.M. to be used
by the Forest Service for paying
the cost of slash disposal, and a
cooperative deposit of $0.25 per
M feet B.M. to cover the cost of
tree planting, seed sowing and
timber stand improvement work
on the area cut over, for the
total cut of timber under the
terms of the agreement, will be
required. $2,500 must accom
' pany each bid, to be applied on
the purchase price, refunded or
retained in part as liquidated
damages, according to conditions
of sale. The right to reject any
and all bids is reserved. Before

be a delegate to certain conven
tions. At present, an official is
not allowed to be a delegate to
the conventions mentioned.

Pvt. Willis C. Vincent, former
Medford man whd is now a pris
oner of the Japanese and Intern
ed in a prison camp on the
Philippine islands.
The card,, signed in Vincent's
handwriting, stated his health
was good and that he lives by
"snatching fragments of bygone
days." He stated that he is well
treated but hopes for better days
to come.

Police said a burglar cut a
