BABY The purpose of footwear tf to protect the feet against Injury by cuts, wretches, punctuies, bruises and the like, not to "streng then" or mold or support them. A baby needs no shoes until he or she is old enough to walk, and it is ridicul o u s to put s h o e s on an infant less than a year old Dr. Brady Just to s h o w the world you have the money to squander that way. All the yo'ing baby needs is socks or stockings, if any foot cover at all is necessary. A baby wear ing dldles should be barefoot and barelegged most or. tne time, A well cared tor baby Is most comfortable and happy that way, Indoors and outdoors, except in extremely cold weather. When In doubt about this, your notion or what you may think is good sense is not a reliable guide; the best guide is the baby's own feeling As long as the baby is comfortable, happy, you may be sure he is sufficiently dressed or protected. As long as the baby's feet 'and hands are warm to touch, you may be sure the baby is comfortable. After the baby begins to walk the shoes should be soft, flexible, with tough but not rigid soles and no more than enough uppers , to hold them on the feet. The soles must not be slippery. The shoes should be little wider than the feet, widest across the balls of the feet Shoes for a young child must always be at least half an Inch longer than the feet, the length of the child's feet being meas ured by the footprint made when the child walks with moistened feet on the bare floor, or with blackened soles on a paper, so that the footprint may be cut out as a pattern, to which the shape of the shoes should conform. Miller, who left two small chil dren in a reportedly stolen auto mobile after driving here from California. Six-year-old Margaret Miller and her infant sister, Shirley Ann, 13 months old, were found in the automobile Friday. Shir ley Ann, dressed only in diapers, was suffering from a severe chest cold. Both children were hungry. Their mother and step father had disappeared. The FBI entered the case when Margaret said, and a check with California confirmed, that the car had been stolen.
