I believe the trouble is due to (a) insufficient use of teeth, gums and Jaws in chewing due tojhe excessive refinement and "purification" of modern food and (b) nutritional deficiency due to the same processing of most food. To combat a I do NOT recom mend chew'ng gum, tobacco or other foreign substance, but I do recommend chewing plain wheat carrying a small supply with you and taking good chew of It whenever you feel the desire. Lt Jones has been with the army engineer corps ln France. Pvt. and Mrs. Glenn Ross and son are visiting here with Mr. and Mrs. Orvllle Ross and son. Pvt. Ross has been stationed In Texas. Mrs. Carl Jackson of Colvllle, Wash., la visiting here with her mother, Mrs. Cindy Down and sisters, Mrs. Charlie White and Mrs. Bob Coffman. Miss Velma White of Med ford is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wells and family. A shower was given for Mrs. Don McDougal by the ladles of Butte Falls. She received many nice gifts. Mrs. Nora Straus and Jess McKinney of Medford. visited the first of the week with their sister, Mrs. Susan Koger and their niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Morgan and sons, Don and Leon. Mr. and Mrs. Elwood and daughters took Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Abbott to Ashland Jan. 14 and left them there to visit Mr. Abbott's sister, Mrs. Martha Corthel. Mr. and Mrs. Abbott returned home Jan. 18. Sams Valley P.T.A. is giving a box social Feb. 9 at the school house. There will be a program. The ladies are asked to bring well filled boxes and the men well filled purses. Sams Valley Ladles' club met at the home of Mrs. Charles Duggan Jan. 18 with Mrs. Mar Ion Owens as hostess. After busi ness meeting a quiz was given by Gueula Straus. Next meeting will be at the home of Rose Elian Duggan, Feb. 1. It will be an all day meeting and each mem ber is asked to bring a covered dish and one cup of sugar. The sugar Is to be used for club par ties. A quilt will be set together that day and those having port able sewing machines are asked to bring them. Grange Council Jackson county grange coun cil held its annual meeting at Phoenix grange hall with one of the largest attendance counts of all time, January 17. The following officers were elected for the coming year: President, John Peffley, Sams Valley grange; vice-president, Isabelle La Vander, Griffin creek and Madge Nowlin, Roxy Ann grange, secretary. Floor work was demonstrated by - officers from Sams Valley with Henry Conger, Frank Han sen and Ray Ward acting as critics. The council selected Jackson ville as next meeting place. Announcements included Po mona at Sams Valley grange hall for an all-day meeting Sat urday. Jan. 27, beginning at 10 a. m. Visiting grange members are requested to bring salad and apple pie. A standing vote of thanks was given the host grange Phoenix. Pomona Grange Regular meeting of Jackson county Pomona grange will be held in Sams Valley grange hall Jan. 27 at 10 a. m. Sams Valley ladies will serve the noon meal and those attending are to bring salad and apple pie. Assistant State Lecturer Marlon Brooks of Josephine county will be present to conduct a lecturers conference. Would also urge that all subordinate H. E. chairmen try to be present for a special installation to be held for them. All fourth degree members may attend this meeting. This is one time of the year when the farmer is not so busy and a good attendance is expected. Gold Hill Grange Gold Hill grange held its reg ular meeting Jan. 18 with Glenn Chase in the master's chair due to absence of Master William Howes, who is still doing assist ant deputy, work in eastern Ore gon. .
