Due to this common misappre hension many readers, I find. ' think I am trying to be funny when T neak of the malnutrition or the nutritional deficiency of persons who are overweight or obese, it is auiicuu o expuun In a paragraph (it takes a few usees in the booklet "Rules, for Reducing" mailed on request if you inclose 25 cents and ' stamped self-addressed envelope) so in this talk we'll just con sider it agreed that nutritional deficiency is the main cause of overweight or obesity and let it go at .that A war widow complains she Is extremely tired and irritable all the time, finds a little relaxa tion drinking tea all day long, taking an average of ten cups a day, with two teaspoonfuls of sugar in each cup. She says she gets lots of exercise taking care of three young children and the house, yet she wishes to reduce. Will the tea drinking in such ex cess do harm? Two or three cups of tea dally should do no harm. Ten cups daily Is a little excessive. Still, even that quantity of tea is ob jectionable, for the young wom an's health and happiness, only in a negative way, I think. That is, in sustaining - herself or re freshing herself when tired, by such frequent tea drinking, she Is aggravating what a.Us her nutritional deficiency. Removed MALNOURISHED teaspoonfuls of refined sugar the young woman takes in her tea every day represents perhaps 600 calories as much as one would get from 3V4 glasses (more than lvi pints) of milk, No wonder the young woman is overweight and malnourished. Tea and sugar, like most breads, cakes and refined cereal prod ucts, supply only calories, little or no vitamins and minerals. This young woman should use saccharin instead of sugar In her tea perhaps a one-fourth grain tablet in a cup of tea. In stead of tea she should for re freshment mldforenoon and mid' afternoon any fresh fruit or fruit juice or fresh or factory-canned tomato or tomato juice, straight. To replenish her vitamin deple tion she should eat a dozen tablets of the essential vitamins every day. That will improve nu trition regardless of the quality of the daily diet and with Im provement of nutrition the con stant fatigue and irritability will be corrected.
