Muncie Of Interest to friends here will be details of the wedding of Miss Margery Bruce Gibbons, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Gibbons, Old Military road, to Lt, James A. Muncie, of McLean, Tex. The ceremony took place December 16 at the Old Post chapel, Ft. Sill, Okla., at 8:30 o'clock In the evening. For her wedding Miss Gibbons wore an ivory satin gown with embroidered neckline and long sleeves and her fingertip length veil fell from an embroidered Juliet cap. The bridal bouquet was of gardenias and white roses. Maid of honor was the bride's sister, Miss Jean J. Gibbons, sta tioned at Astoria, Ore., with the WAVEs. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Robert Kearns, Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Mrs. Gall Hendricks. Los Angeles, sister of the groom. All three were gowned In yellow chiffon worn with long white gloves. They carried colonial bouquets of white carna tions on green maline with green ribbons and wore matching flow er headpieces. The bride's mother was gowned in crepe with fuchsia sequins. Mr. Gibbons has been ill and was unable to attend the wed ding service. Lt. and Mrs. Muncie are now at home at 310 H avenue, Law ton, Ok!a since the groom is stationed at Ft. Sill. He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lester B. Muncie of McLean. Mrs. Gibbons is at present in Cleveland, Ohio, as guest of relatives. 'Lillian M. Hanna Wed Last Month To Calif ornian Friends here of Mrs. Lillian M. Hanna have received an nouncements of her wedding to Ralph O. Vincent of Los Ange les. The rites took place De cember 28 in Las Vegas, Nev., and Mr. and Mrs. Vincent have taken up residence at 624 East 76th Place, Los Angeles. Mrs. Vincent resided in Jack son county for many years, leav ing about a year ago for San Gabriel, Calif., where she oper ated a cafe. Shirley Gelvin Honored Gue$t Evans Valley A dinner was given December 31 by Mrs. W. D. Moore and son, BUlle, for Miss Shirley Gelvin, home from San Francisco to spend the holi days with her parent, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Oelvta, and her sis ter. Carolyn. Quest were Mr. and Mrs. W. A. White, formerly of this district and now of Med ford, Miss Vivian Burrows of Grants Pass, Mr. and Mrs. Gel vln, Carolyn Gelvin, and the guest of honor. Miss Gelvin is working in a Richmond shipyard and attend ing business college in San Francisco part time. She left Sunday to return to her work and school. Clark Weds Kentuckian In Spokane Rites Mr. and Mrs. Ward Spatz, 1036 Reddy avenue, received news this week of the wedding of their son, Edward Denton Clark. His bride Is the former Geneva Lee Steele of Louisville, Ky., and the wedding ceremony was held in Spokane, Wash., Jan. 2. The groom Is a technical ex pert with the Consolidated Vul tee Aircraft corp., working on the construction of B-24 bomb er planes. For the past year he has had headquarters at Spring field, O., but for the next few months will work out of Boise, Idaho. Mr. Clark is a graduate of Medford senior high school and later attended technical schools In Los Angeles. t' United Nations Plans For Peace To Be Discussed Details of a nationwide cam paign of the League of Women Voters to Interest citizens in the preliminary plans for a United Nations . organization to keep peace will be explained to mem bers of the Jackson County League of Women Voters at a meeting planned for Tuesday evening at the Girls community club. Speakers of the evening will be Mrs Ralph W. Rasmus sen, Portland, president of the state league, who this week will make a tour of local league. Pointing out that before his retirement Secretary of State Hull asked for a "full study and discussion by the people of all countries of the tentative pro posals for an international or ganization" the national board of the league has prepared to launch the greatest campaign in the league's history, officers state. The league has worked to further a strong international organization to keep the peace tor 20 years and the foreign policy Item in the league pro gram calls for membership of the United States In a general international organization event ually to Include all peoples re gardless of race, religion or political persuasion, for peace ful setlement of disputes with power to prevent or stop war," according to a statement by Miss Anna Lord Strauss, na tional president. Mrs. Rasmussen will present details of the Dumbarton Oaks conference, whose proposals the national league has endorsed and will present three questions which the state department has asked the public to think about nd discuss. These are: Should we Join the United Nations now to keep peace; should the Unit ed Nations be able to use some U. S. military force against ag gressors; should we try to solve such problems as trade, trans portation and raw materials by United Nations action? Mrs. Justin Smith, president of the local league, is anxious that there be a large attendance to hear Mrs. Rasmussen. Church Society To Study Islands . A study of the Islands of the Southwest Pacific .was started at the meeting of the Adult Mis sionary society of the First Christian church when the group met last Wednesday at the church. Mrs. C. W. Kindred, president,- presided over the meeting and Mrs. Maud Daugh erty was chairman In charge of the program. A committee headed by Mrs. J. H. Hopkins served refresh ments following the program. David Holmes, Daughter, Plan Vacation in South A vacation In California and Arizona has been planned by David Holmes and his daughter, Miss Nanette Holmes. Conroy and Miss Swem's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Jack Swim, Medford Society Musicale and Tea Is Well Attended The musicale and tea given last Sunday by. the Medford Musical society at the home of Mrs. Margaret Fabrick, 106 Cra ter Lake avenue, was well at tended and a generous contri bution to the scholarship loan fund was received. Mrs. Fabrick was assisted by the past presidents of the society, Mrs. Charles Lemery, Mrs. A. O. Bauman, Mrs. M. N. Hogan, Mrs. Richard Payne and Mrs. J. E. Russell. Mrs. Lemery and Mrs. Hogan poured and Mrs. J. C. Collins and Mrs. F. H. Reum also assisted. An interesting musical pro gram was presented by Miss Betty Evanson, pianist, Dorothy Gore Davis, violinist, and Miss Alice Holmback, accompanist, all of whom were spending the holidays in Medford with their families. The scholarship loan fund, ac cording to the president, Mrs. Howard Rutherford, is this year one of the major interests of the society which hopes to assist some local student to secure ad vanced training in music. Program On Arabia Presented To Club A program on Arabia was given at the meeting of the Wed nesday Study club last week, with Mrs. N. T. Hodges serving as . program chairman. Mrs. Frank Alberts gave a paper on "Can Arabs Unite?" from Harold Lamb, California jour nalist, describing the problems and situations existing today among the Arabs and also deal ing with the future of the coun try after the war and describ ing the country's resources. Mrs. R. T. Nichol gave a book review on "Meet the Arab" by Dr. John Van Ess, describing the life of the Arab people. The membership committee presented the name of Mrs. A. E. Moore. Mrs. Mary Jacobs presided over the meeting. Laalon Auviliarw To Hold Initiation. Initiation will take place at the meeting of the American Legion auxiliary planned for Wednesday evening of this week at 8 o'clock. Members of the auxiliary will serve refresh ments for both the post and unit following the business sessions, with Mrs. Frank Ray as chair man in charge of arrangements. WAVE Receives Overseas Duty Miss Mary E. Wilson, yeoman second-class In the Waves, will leave Monday for Shoemaker, Cal., where she will be assigned to overseas duty. Miss Wilson, who has been in Medford visit ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wilson of route 1, has been stationed In thfe office of the port director In Seattle for the past year. Before going Into the service Miss Wilson was with the Pierce Auto Freight company here. Young, Ross Lane, announce tbe rnar riage of their daughter, Patricia, to Aviation Cadet Robert N. Shelby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Shelby of the Jackson ville highway. The double-ring service took place In Hobbs, New Mexico, the evening of December IS, being read at 7:30 o'clock In the eve ning at the post chapel with the unit chaplain officiating. The chapel had been decorated with flowers and was lighted by can dles. The service war preceded by traditional wedding music, including numbers by a choir, a vocalist and the wedding march. Cadet Shelby's" parents attend ed the couple. Guests included all members of the groom's train ing squadron at the post, who attended in a group. The bride is a graduate - of Medford senior high school and later took cadet nurses train ing at the Good Samaritan hos pital in. Portland. Cadet Shelby has been in the air corps since July of last year, training In Texas before being transferred to New Mexico. For the present the bride and groom will reside at 620 East Main street in Hobbs. Medford Author To Be Speaker At Club Meeting Mrs. E. H. Hedrlck will speak at the annunl luncheon of the Rogue River Valley College Women's club which has been' set for Saturday, January 13, at the Presbyterian church par lors at 1 o'clock. Mrs. Hedrick, who has had many short stories and books published, will speak on modern literature. Miss Vera Humphrey Is chair man in chnrge of the luncheon, with Mrs. Walter Inch and Mrs. Richard Klemm as assisting hostesses. Reservations are to be made with Mrs. James Camp bell, phone 4393, by Thursday. Mrs. Campbell will take reser vations during morning and evening hours. Medford Students To Enter Stanford Miss Patricia Farrell and Miss Lois Pringle left Medford Fri day for Palo Alto, Calif., where both will enter Stanford univer sity. Miss Farrell as a senior in the English department and Miss Pringle as a junior in the department of social science. Both previously attended the University of Oregon, where they were members of Pi Beta Phi. For the past several weeks Miss Farrell was on the editorial staff of The Mail Tribune. Miss Pringle is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Pringle, 915 Reddy street, and Miss Far rell is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Farrell, 1510 East Main street. 1 Guests Entertained At Birthday Party A party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Castanos De cember 29 celebrated the birth day anniversary of Norma Jean Castanos. The evening was spent in music, Mary Lou Beaton and Gordon Bussey giving piano numbers, while Norma Jean Castanos and Jimmy SKinn play ed accordjons. Later the group attended a movie at the Cra terian theater. Famous Violinist To Give Concert In City Thursday Joseph Szigeti, violinist, who has achieved world-fame on two round the world tours,, eleven tours of the Soviet Union and two decades of coast-to-coast tours in the United States, opens the concert season of the Jack son County Civic Music associa tion with an appearance In the Medford senior high school audi torium Thursday, Jan. 11, at 8:15 p. m. Szigeti is considered one of the world's great musicians and has been ranked as one of the three greatest violinists of the world, topped only by Krelsler and Heifetz. He made his debut in this country In 1925 with the Philadelphia orchestra, under the direction of Leopold Sto kowskl, and has since given thousands of performances in all parts of the nation. The violinist was born in Budapest, taught first by his father and then placed under the -guidance of the great Hun garian violinist apd teacher, Jeno Hubay. When Szigeti was 12, Hubay had him play for Joachim, greatest violinist of the 19th century, who declared he has a great future." In recent years Szigeti has given a great deal of time to the war effort having volunteered for USO and army camp per formances, played for many con certs for the United Nations re lief agencies and is credited with giving the first "war bond" concert, admission being by pur chase of bonds only: Outside of music, the artist has varied interests. He has a collection of miniature furniture, a Victory garden where he grew one of the biggest squashes and the smallest so-called "cherry tomatoes" in California, arid a wild bird aviary. He has started preparations towards becoming an American citizen. Dorothy Gore Davis . Returns To Chicago Dorothy Gore Davis, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Gore, 116 Geneva avenue, for the past three months, left Friday night for Chicago where she expects to continue her violin studies. While in Oregon Mrs. Davis ap peared on a number of musical programs both here and in Kla math Falls. mania. Jamie Bruegger Engaged To Wed Eugene Resident ' Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Bruegger of Eugene, formerly of Medford, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Jamie, to Robert A. Hope, United States navy. He is the younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph A. Hope, Sr., of Eugene. No date is set for the wedding. Both Miss Bruegger and her fiance are former students at the University of Oregon and Miss Bruegger is a graduate of Medford senior high school. At the university Miss Bruegger was a member of Alpha Phi sorority and Mr. Hope was af filiated with Phi Delta Theta. He is now stationed in South Carolina and is a seaman first class.
