UNTIL 1946 NOW , ROOSEVELT VIEW Washington, Jan. 6 (U.R) President Roosevelt made it clear today that he expects the war with Japan to continue into 1948 even if Germany should collapse this year. In his annual message to con gress, Mr. Roosevelt said 1945 could see the final ending nf the nazi-fascist reign of terror in curope but the best he could ' see in the Pacific was the clos ing of the forces of retribution about the center of the malign ant power of imperialistic Japan. This is what Mr. Roosevelt re ported to congress about mili tary progress on world-wide fighting fronts and future pros pects: He expressed complete confi dence in Gen. Dwight D. Eisen hower's leadership of allied forces, and warned against "di visive propaganda" all, he said, bearing the trademark "made in lermany" designed to drive a wedge between the aliles. He said "we shall resume the at tack and despite temporarV set backs here or there we shall continue the attack relentlessly until Germany is defeated." He said the Italian campaign was pinning down "a substantial portion of the German army. . . . including some 20 first-line Ger man divisions and the necessary supply and transport and - re placement troops." Corcoran, Calif., Jan. 6 (U.R) Cold and hunger prompted four German prisoners of war, who escaped from the Corcoran pris oner of war camp Thursday.to surrender today to W. J. Bens burg, a rancher. Peterson, but other fairs will be held in Oregon this year, the Oregon Fairs association an nounced today at its annual meeting. Dates for the colorful Pendle ton round-up have been set for September 13-15. The aPciIic-ln ternational Livestock Exposition will hold its annual 4-H club ex hibition October 10-12, although its grounds are being used by the federal government. Many county fair dates are tentative, with some holding no program and others only junior fairs, it was pointed out by the association s fair date committee, Peterson told the association meeting that a celebration in times like these might not be appropriate. Herman H. Chindgren, prest dent of the association for 17 years, said that Oregon's fairs will face a tough financial prob lem because of the ban on horse racing.
