Society and CL UBS Holiday Program Planned For Lodge - A holiday program and ex change of Christmas gifts will feature the meeting of Olive Rebekah lodge tomorrow night at the Odd Fellows hall, 221 West Sixth street, at 7:30 o'clock. A business meeting will be followed by the program and Christmas tree. Ella Gould is chairman of the committee in charge of arrangements. Each person attending is to bring a gift, the committee an nounces. -4 Mary Martha Unit Will Give Dinner Mary Martha circle of the Methodist church has planned a dinner and social evening for Tuesday, with husbands and friends to be special guests. Din ner will be served at 6:15 at the church parlors. Those attend ing are asked to bring a cov ered dish for the dinner and service. v Boyds Leaving City To Reside In South Mr. and Mrs. Lew Boyd of 315 North Bartlett street are leaving the' first of this week . for Pasadena, Calif. They ex pect to reside in that city for several months, or possibly un til the end of the war. The troop is sponsored by the veterans' group. A program will be presented, with Mrs. Wheaton Huntley and Clarence Griffith in charge, and gifts will be presented to the young folks. Refreshments will be served at the close of the evening. VFW, Auxiliary Plan Yule Party Crater Lake Post and auxll iary, Veterans of Foreen Wars, will hold 'the annual Christmas party Tuesday evening of this week. The affair will be a pot- luck dinner to be served at the armory at 6:30 o'clock and will be followed by the regular meet ings of both the post and aux iliary. Bible Class to Hold Holiday Party Thursday. Women's Bible class of the Methodist church will be enter tained for the annual Christmas party at the home of Mrs. Mary Jones, Stewart avenue and Lo- zier Lane Wednesday afternoon, Luncheon will be served at 1 o'clock. Members desiring trans portation are to be at the church at 12:30 o'clock. Everyone is to bring a gift for exchange and table service. Family To Join Local Navy Man In California Mrs. Authur Copinger and daughters, Charlene and An nette, left-Friday for Los An geles to make their home while Mr. Copinger is stationed at Inyokern, Calif., with the U. S, navy. Mrs. Copinger is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Three Leavo Friday For New York Stay Mrs. James Keeble -and son, Hart, and Miss Harriett Hart left Friday night for New York City where they will spend Christmas and the holidays with Mrs. Keeble's husband, who is in the merchant marine. They plan to be away about a month. ... Christian Church Class To Hold Installation Installation of officers will be held by Alpha Delta class of the First Christian church at a lun cheon meeting scheduled for Tuesday. Luncheon will be served at 12:30 o'clock in fellow ship hall. Class members not previously contacted are asked to bring a hot vegetable dish or a salad. POSTPONE RITES FOR LUPE VELEZ, ALL PROBES OFF Hollywood, Dec. 16 CU.fO The body of Lupe Velez, tem pestuous Mexican actress who took her life Thursday as tragic climax to a love affair, today lay in state, awaiting ar rival of her mother, who was to make arrangements to return the fiery screen star to her na tive Mexico. . Originally scheduled for Tues day, the funeral was postponed after Charles E. Trezona, Jr., the actress business manager, said a telegram had been receiv ed from Jorge Negrete, president of the Mexican syndicate of theatrical and moving picture artists, asking that all plans be held up until arrival of Miss Velez' mother, Mrs. Joseflna Vil lalobos. Previously it had been an nounced that Mrs. Villalobos was ill and would not be able to make the trip. Miss Velez sister, Mrs. Jose rlna Anderson, of San Antonio, Tex., left El Paso today on her way to the film capital and will arrive Sunday, Trezona said. While friends in America and Mexico mourned the death of the Mexican actress, authorities closed their Investigations and calle dthe case simply suicide. Kiss Velez left two notes ex plaining that she was taking her own life in w aference to becom ing an unwed mother. Sunday. Vesper Services To Be Held On Dec. 24 Traditional Christmas Candle light Vesper services will be held at 4:30 Sunday afternoon. uec. The choir will be under the di rection of Mrs. Elsie Carlton Strang. The remaining portion of the program will be presented by the young people of the church, with Elaine Walker reading the Scripture, Clara Daniels pre senting the subject address, and Lorraine r Gleason leading the prayer. Henne spent many months In Alaska with a staff of United Airlines men carrying on an army pro ject. The speaker .discussed Alas kan weather, scenery and trans portatio nproblems and told of the extremely high prices, stat ing that hamburger sandwiches sold for $1 each in Anchorage.
