Society and CLUBS Christening Held At Church Here; Visitors Depart Christening services were held at , St. Mark's Episcopal church Friday afternoon for Catherine Jean Treece, six-months-old-daughter of Lt. and Mrs. Walker Treece, with the Rev. George R. Turney per forming the service. Godparents for the infant are Mr. and Mrs. Roit r.mnnlntf nf Portland and Mr W nnrlanrl Jones of Med- ford ,and in the absence of the Grannings, Mr. and Mrs. nur dette Dodge of Medford acted as proxy godparents. Following the ceremony a small group of relatives and 'friends were entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred S. V. Carpenter, Old Stage Road, in celebration of the christening. : Lt. and Mrs. Treece and Ca therine loft yestertlay afternoon by plane for Portland and after spending a few days with the lieutenant's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Manley Treece, will leave Thursday for Camp Hood, Tex., where the ' officer is stationed. Mrs. Treece has been here for the past several weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Schil ler. Medford Heights, and Lt. Treece arrived Thursday night. M. 25th Anniversary Is Celebrated By Medford BPW Club Twenty -fifth anniversary of the National Federation of Busi ness and Professional Women's clubs was observed by the local club which is also celebrating its 20th anniversary, by a din ner meeting and initiation of 17 new members at .the Hotel Holland Thursday evening. A large birthday cake, appropri ately decorated for the silver anniversary and presented to the club by the Fluhrer Bak eries of Medford, was served. Maurine Shearer, president, welcomed the following new members into the organization: Frieda Berger, Marian Farrell, Alice Hall, Betty Helgren, Ger trude Hamblin, Bertha Haskins. Aileen Maddnx, Ruth Meeker, Mary Mitchell, Ivah Murray, Dorothy Parr. Annabelle Riggs, Dorothy Sanborn, Virginia Waite, Bernice Webb, Lorraine Woodburn,. Helen Wooten. Isabel Brixner, county school superintendent of Klamath county and '' district chairman of the B.P.W.C. for the southern Oregon district, was present and talked on the history of 'the or ganization and its growth since 1919. Mabel C. Mack, past presi dent of the Medford club and i now state federation emblem I and membership chairman, talk ed on the recent conference held at Corvallis and on the membership contest held in the state in which the Medford club is now leading in its group. The emblem and initiation ceremony was given by Mildred Drury, Lola Reed, Kathryn Da vidson. Lula Watson and Marj orie. Horiklns. In charee of " the I dinner and initiation was Eva Judd. chairman, with Kathryn Davidson, Lola Reed and Ethel Tennant. . The club voted to send Christ- , mas gifts to several soldiers at Camp- White hospital in co-operation with the local chapter of the American Red Cross. Next meeting will be a Christ mas party, December 15, at the Girls Community club. Marjorie Hopkins is chairman of the com mittee to be assisted by Eve Prentice, Bernice Webb, Helen Wooten, Dorothy Sanborn, Betty Helgren, Ruth Meeker. Mills, Jacksonville, en tertained a group of her frienfls on her 10th birthday Thurs day afternoon at the" home of her parents. Games were en joyed and refreshments served. Hostess Dinner Is Held Friday At Service Club MarKade- junior and senior hostess held a dinner meeting at about 40 in attendance. Revers-' Ing the usual procedure for a recreation center a group of serv icemen aided with the dinner, acting as waiters and volun teering for kitchen clean-up aft edwards. On this volunteer committee were a merchant ma rineman, two men from the army air corps and a few men from various Camp White units. A music program was fur nished by Pvt.. Bill Adams, who sang a group of vocal numbers with Mrs. Helen Razum as ac companist. . A . new operating committee was announced. Members at present are Mrs. John Moffat,; Mrs. Robert Holmes, Miss Jane Snedicor and Ward Hammond. Richey entertained Monday afternoon in celebration of the second anniversary of her small son, Othar Donley. Pic tures - were taken of the small guests and the traditional birth day cake served. Mrs. Richey was assisted by Mrs. F. E. Richey. Guests were Peggy and Patsy Richey, Everett Music, Patty and Junior Taylor, Mrs. F. E. Richey, Mrs. Ben Music, Mrs. A. H. The conference dealt in the auxil iary's projects and program for the coming year "and was for members only. Mrs. Charles Lemmons, Pen dleton, department president. was present, as well as Mrs. Earl Templar, Klamath Falls, department vice-president; Mrs. Mae Whitcomb, Portland, de partment secretary; Mrs. Mil dred Harmeson, Ashland, child welfare chairman; Mrs. Harold Parchers, Portland, president of district one and Mrs. William G, Wylle, Coos Bay, president of district four.' The presenta tion was made by Seth Bullis, chairman ot the Jackson County Red Cross board. A the auxiliary, and wife of the commanding officer of Camp White, presided at the meeting and accepted the certificate for all the army women who former ly did Red Cross work with the auxiliary, and for those who were present. Since the auxiliary was estab lished August 22, 1943, with ap proval of Brig. Gen. Amos Tho mas, then commanding officer of Camp White, and under the leadership of Mrs. William Live- say, wife of Gen. Llvesay, com- mander of 91st Division, over 1168 women have been mem bers, including wives of officers of the 91st and 96th divisions, the S.C.U. and all the many units who have trained at Camp White. These members have given 9606 hours of Red Cross service, and' have served as nurse aides, Gray Ladies, staff assistants, in the motor corps and Home Service corps, The production corps which is the most popular group, meets every Wednesday at the Outpost from 10 to 4. This group has made 2893 garments, kit bags and afghans in the last year. Mrs. Fred Rankin, executive secretary, spoke of the new plans for Red Cross work and asked the auxiliary to particl- pate in the open house project to be held in memory of Pearl Har- bor Day, Dec. 7. Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Eden and Lt. and Mrs. William H. DiGlacomo. , A program, cards and other games and dancing had . been planned for the evening and re freshments were served. During the evening the officers present ed Mrs, Eden with a gift, the presentation being made by Lt, Everett Irwin who worded it after the manner .of a military citation. The gift was in appreci ation of Mrs. Eden's efforts toward furnishing and equipping the officers' club. . Assisting Lt. Irwin with I rangements for the party were . Lt. Frederick MacGovern and Lt. Other matters discussed were week-day religious educa tion and a program for leader ship training classes. The president appointed Mrs. D. W. Daniels, Mrs. V. Birdseye,, Mrs. M. Fabrlck, Mrs. W. Frost' and Mrs. A. F. Kornstad as a! nominating committee to report' Jan. 5, when the entire council assembles for the annual busi ness meeting to be followed by a tea. Resignation of Mrs. Karl W. Brockhaus as president of the council was read and accepted with regret. Mrs. Brockhaus is leaving Medford to . reside- in Grand Forks, Nprth Dakota, where her husband will be pas tor of St. Marks Lutheran church. Mrs. A. . H. Royal Neighbors of America, this past week included attend" ance at a district meeting hi Ashland Wednesday and the an nual Homecoming meeting here Thursday night. Eighteen members attended the Ashland meeting and tha Medford delegation staged lnltt ation ceremonies for a class of eight new members. Ashland lodge members served a banquet for those attending the rally.' Some 50 persons attended tha Homecoming festivities, which opened with a dinner for mem bers, their families and friend. Among those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Gantenbein of Mount Vernon, Wash., former Medford residents. Mrs. Ganten bein is a member of the Medford camp. . ' . i .
