TOUR MEDFORD MAIL TKIBUITS Society Holiday Parties 'Planned By Many For Thanksgiving 4 1 1 With the approach of the .Thanksgiving holiday plans are underway for the traditional .celebrations. While for the most .part a family holiday marked .with family-, dinner parties, lodges, clubs and recreation centers for servicemen are also "plannig dances and parties. '" The Officers' Outpost, the Mar Kade and the Riverside USO fiave all planned dances and 'other parties and are making plans to have some of the tra ditional Thanksgiving "goodies" 'on hand for the servicemen. The Thanksgiving dance at the MarKade will also be Wed nesday night. This will be an (nformal affair with music fur nished by Al Jain and his Rhy thmaires. Thanksgiving' Day the center will open at 5 p. m, for! open house and a buffet supper will be served. A formal dance Is planned at the Riverside USO for Thursday night between the hours of 9 and 12 p. m. "Thursday night the annual Fireman's ball will be h!d at the Oriental Gardens, with mu sic to be furnished by a seven piece orchestra. . Saturday night the traditional Thanksgiving dance will be giv en by the Elks lodge, with danc ing to start at 10 p. m. Games have also been planned for the evening. Young Musicians To Be Featured On Club Program "Young America" will be the theme of the program for the November meeting of the Med ford Musical society to be held tomorrow evening at the home of Mrs. J. C. Boyle, 1019 South Oakdale avenue. The program has been arranged by Mrs. Ro berta Ward Bebb and will feat ure Miss June Williams, prano; Miss Nancy Swem, plan' 1st, and Dorothy Gore Davis, violinist. Miss Williams will sing two groups, the first to include "Care Selve" from the opera, "Atalan ta" by Handel, "Were My Song With Wings Provided" by Hahn and "Danny Boy" by Weather ly. Second of the groups will include "As Thro the Street" from "La Boheme," Puccini; "Rain" by Pearl Curran and "Ave Maria' by Luigl Luzzi. T)nnnHnu Wed This Week To LeRoy Whitney Word has been received in Medford il the marriage on Wednesday of this past week of Mrs. Sloane Danenhower, step daughter of James Owen, Slskl you Heights, former president of the Owen-Oregon Lumber company, to LeRoy Whitney of Washington, D. C, assistant to Donald Nelson, head of the war Production Board marriage ceremony. for a two-weeks' honeymoon. Mrs. Whitney 'is well known In Medford, having been a fre quent visitor at the Owen home and also at the home of the late Colonel Gordon Voorhles and Mrs. Voorhles of Voorhles Crossing. Mrs. Charles Voorhles, formerly of Medford and now of Portland, is Mrs. Whitney's stepdaughter. Chapter Visitors Are Entertained By Local Groups Three visiting officers of the P.E.O. Sisterhood were enter tained in Medford Wednesday. Mrs. E. N. Kaser, Grants Pass, president of the state chapter, Mrs. B. E. Whisenand, Bend, a state vice-president, and Mrs. H. C. Kavanaugh, Grants Pass, president of AG. chapter,' were the visitors. Wednesday noon the guests were entertained by Chapter AA at the home of Mrs. C. H. Paske on South Oakdale avenue. Mrs. E. B. DeVoe and Mrs. W. E. so-JHoppe were assistant hostesses. That evening Mrs, O. H. Bengt son of Chapter BE entertained at dinner for Mrs. Kaser, Mrs. Whisenand and Mrs. Kavanaugh, inviting officers of the chapter and other guests. The dinner was at her home, 122 Oregon Terrace. Following dinner Chap ter BE entertained the visitors at the home of Mrs. George Canode on Crown avenue, with Miss Ora Cox as assisting hostess. , Firemen To Give Traditional Ball Thanksgiving Day Roy Elliott, chief of Med- Jord's fire department, an lounces that the traditional Fireman's Mall will be given Thanksgiving night at the Orien tal Gardens in Medford. The chief states that a seven-piece orchestra will furnish music for dancing between the hours of 9 p. m. and 1 a. m. For a great many , year the annual dance given by the fire men raised funds for their ex tenelve toy repairing project, whereby underprivileged chil dren were provided with Christ mas toys. Since supplies are not now available for the repairing, the funds from the dance will be used to purchse Boy Scout campships and for other serv ices for underprivileged chil dren, Chief Elliott states. A special ticket price has been set for servicemen, it is an-1 nounced. Each officer wore a white chrysanthemum with No. 93 let tered in blue, a gift of Mrs. Faber and distinguished and honored guests were presented white chrysanthemums with O. E. S. lettered in blue. This ac cented the blue and white color scheme used throughout the evening. Sharon Thompson Honored At Party Sharon Kay Thompson cele brated her fourth birthday an niversary Saturday , November 11, with a party at the home of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Following the parade a covered dish dinner was held at the lodge hnll for members and families. Cards were played during the afternoon and a dance in the evening completed the day's celebration. Hart ley entertained Monday evening at a supper party, the affair be ing given at the Officers' Out post on Sixth street. The supper party provided an opportunity for the colonel's' friends to spend an evening with him while he i was in Medford on a brief leave to visit Mrs. Hartley and their daughter, Mrs. Tom Martin. Col. Hartley was stationed at Camp White for a considerable period and currently is stationed at Camp Gruber, Okla. He left Tuesday to return to Oklahoma. M. Tuttle as special guests. The din ner, an annual affair of the troop officially closes the riding and drilling season for the troop members. Twenty-eight were present. Following" dinner Mrs. C. Lyall Fidler, captain of the troop presented Mrs. Tuttle a gift, making the presentation with several lines of original verse which she had written. Mr. Tut tle serves as drillmaster for the troop. Mrs. O. H. Bengtson, a past captain of the group, spoke briefly in praise of Mrs. Fidler's service for the troop during the past season. Mr. Tuttle spoke, stating that Interest in riding and in mount ed troops seems to be on the increase for Oregon and enthusi astic plans were made by the group for another year of riding and . drill under Mr. Tuttle' supervision.
