Bovernini Wed In Medford At a pretty home wedding Friday evening, August 18, Miss Dorothie Marie Rice, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Rice, 810 West Eleventh street, became the bride of Sergeant Daniel Boverini. The service was read by the Hev. Ward A. Rice of the First Christian church, the bridal party stand ing in front of the flower-banked fireplace in the living room. For her wedding the bride wore a suit of fuchsia shade with white accessories and a gardenia corsage. She was given In marriage by her father. Bridesmaid was Miss Ruth Gentry, who was attired in light green with fuchsia accents. Attending Sergeant Boverini as best man was Robert Ford and the wedding march was played by Pvt. Lorenz A. First slice of the traditional wedding cake was cut by the bride after which the cutting was completed by the bride's 'sister, Mrs. Harvey Walker of Ashland. For the past two years the sergeant has been stationed at Camp White where he was leader of the SCU orchestra. Sergeant Boverinl's parents are Mr. and Mrs. D. Boverini of Cicero, III. Mrs. Boverini has resided her entire life in Medford and has many friends here. Jantzers Honor Mrs. H. Goode On Anniversary Prospect. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Jantzer entertained a group of friends at an evening party Aug. 19, In celebration of Mrs. Harry Goode'a birthday anniversary. In San Francisco she will be with her mother, Mrs. Kinney Holmes. September 4, Miss Holmes will enroll at Dominican college in San Rafael, where she Will bo a Junior. Her freshman and sophomore college courses were taken at the University of Oregon where she was a mem ber of the university chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Opening of colleges and univer sities being near, the younger generation Is concerned with shopping lists and letters to deans and registrars. A few have already left for schools which open early in September, but the majority will leave about the middle of the month. One of the large affairs of this week-end Is the annual birth' day celebration of the Medford Eagles lodge, which Is today holding Initiation and other cere monies in observance of the 18th anniversary of the lodge's in stallation here. Charter mem- bfirg are being s'pGclaily honored, and a number are expected to attend. It is said that about 300 people will attend the dinner, program and dance this evening. Jean Coppedge Guest Of Honor Wednesday Eve Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Coppedge entertained for their daughter, Jean, Wednesday, on her sev enth birthday anniversary. Portland Woman Is Honored Guest At Bridge Party In honor of her sister-in-law, Mrs. J. J. Colton, Mrs. Sam Col ton entertained Wednesday afternoon at her home, 1619 East Main street. Mrs. Colton returned to her home In Port land Friday after spending sev eral days here. The Wednesday affair was luncheon and bridge, with Mrs. Arthur Cannon and Mrs. Royal Clare receiving prizes for hon ors at cards. Several luncheons and dln ern were given for Mrs. Colton while she was in Medford. Oldar Family Leaves For Vacation Trip Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Older and two daughters, Billie and Patsy, Berkeley Way, left Friday for Eugene where a third daughter, Miss Charlotte Older, has been attending summer session at the University of Oregon. The fam ily will return the lattor part of this week after a vacation trip. fm y Lt. W. C. Purdin And Bride Arrive To Visit Parents Lt. Worlow C. Purdin and his bride, the former Miss Marjoric Scott of Aruba, Curacao, Nether lands West Indies, arrived in Medford last week to spend sev eral days here with the lieuten ant's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Purdin, 335 Fairmont avenue. The bride is a daughter of W. D. Scott of Aruba. Lt. and Mrs. Purdin were married August 15 in Fayette villo, Ark. Attendants were Miss Jackie Dobbs of New Orleans, La., and Lewis Thompson of Little Rock, Ark. A wedding supper was served at Mountain Inn following the service and the couple then left for the trip west. Mrs. Purdin has been attend ing school in the United States, having first been a student at the University of Arizona and later attending the University of Arkansas, where she was en- rolled until the time of her mar- riage. She is a member of Delta Gamma, national social sorority. Lt. Purdin recently returned to this country from overseas where he was with the Fifteenth Air Force in the Mediterranean area for 14 months as a pilot Before going into the air corps he was a student, attending Med ford senior high school, the Southern Oregon College of Education at Ashland and Comp ton Junior college in Los An jgeles. Ho received his army Phoe commission at AjUkc rieia nix, Ariz. The Purdlns are members of one of the city's older and well known families. Lt. Purdin's grandfather was the late Judge Mahlon Purdin, well known at- tomey w(,0 at one time served mavor of Medford. Lt. and Mrs. Purdin will leave the latter part of this week for Santa Monica, Calif., where the officer will reDort. A parly was given Tuesday for Donna Lou Barker, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Barker, Four Corners, in cele bration of her third birthday anniversary. The party was at the home of Donna Lou's grand mother, Mrs. J. W. Hublcr, 859 East Ninth street. The little folk played games, pictures were made during the afternoon and the guest of honor was presented with a number of gifts. Refreshments were served on the lawn from a large table decorated In red, white and blue and with birthday cakes at each end of tho table. Favors with small flags marked the places for Charles Hublcr, Dickie Ran kin, Johnny and Jimmie Faw cctt, Sharon and Clayton Cop sey, Marilyn Barker, and the honored guest. A number of mothers also were present. ' 1 Oreys Entertain Son And Fiancee Jack C. Orcy, aviation radio man third class in the United States navy, is spending a leave in Medford with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Orcy, 53 North Peach street. Mr.Orey's fiancee. Miss Norma Larson of Berkeley, Calif., arrived in Medford the early port of the week and is a guest at the Orey home. Announcement of the engage ment of Miss Larson and Mr. Orey was made April 8. Miss Larson is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Larson of Detroit, Mich. No date has been set for the wedding. Mr. Orey graduated from ad vanced training at the, Navy air station, Hutchinson, Kan., be fore coming home and reports next at San Diego, Calif. Robbins Family Holds Reunion At Briscoe Home Phoenix Holding the first re union in 22 years, members of the Robbins family gathered at the E. G. Briscoe home in Phoe nix Sunday, August 20. Dinner was served outdoors and during the afternoon family group pic tures were taken. Twenty-three persons were in attendance, in eluding Mrs. Anna Robbins Phoenix, mother and grand mother of the family, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Robbins, Oakridge, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Schmitt, j Grants Pass; Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Robbins and children, Nelda Gayle, Winston and Neil, Gold Hill; Mrs. H. A. Radtke and chil dren, Sheila and Bill of Bremer .ton, Wash.; C. L. Robbins and sons, Ronald and Gary, Phoenix; Mrs. Fern Harris and daughter, Nancy; Mrs. Harriet Walker and daughter, Susan, Medford, and Mr. and Mrs. Briscoe. Two groups of four-generation pictures were taken, one with Mrs. Robbins, Mrs. Briscoe, Mrs. Walker and Susan Walker and the other with Mrs. Robbins, Mrs. Briscoe, Mrs. Harris and Nancy Harris. The Robbins family was one of the pioneer families of the Phoenix district and various members have resided in Phoe nix, Gold Hill and Medford for many years. , Junior Red Cross All-Day Picnic Is Held Yesterday comers to the city. V. Carpenter, Topsides. The gay crowd left town at 10 o'clock and returned at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Swimming lessons and games were managed by Milo Ross and John Bales, and Pfe. Morz of Camp While acted as lifeguard. At noon the lunch which each youngster had brought was aug mented with the popular hot dogs, buns and ice cream, a treat of the Carpenters. Other adults who assisted with the picnic were Mrs. Dean Falwcll. Mrs. H. D. Byington, Miss Vera Humphrey, Mrs. James Fleshman, Mrs. Kinche loe, and three Red Cross staff members, Mrs. Howard Picker ing, Mrs. Gertrude Yeiser and Mrs. Fred Rankin. Miss Humph rey is chairman of Junior Red Cross activities for the entire county. Music Instructor Home From South Mrs. Royal E. Bebb has re turned from a month's vacation spent in San Francisco and southern California. While in the south Mrs. Bebb was a guest of Mrs. O. B. Kee at her estate in Arcadia and spent a week in Santa Monica and Los Angeles. While awny Mrs. Bebb, Med ford music instructor, attended a concert at the Hollywood Bowl which presented the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra and Vivian Delia Chicsa as soloist, Mrs. Bebb also attended the , light operas, "The Waltz King ", I the life and music of Johann Strauss, and starring Richard Bonelli, "The Merry Widow" and the premiere of the new pic ture, "Wilson". Mrs. Bebb will reopen her music studio at her home, 528 South Grape, in September. Loyalty Circle Plant nnual Picnic Thursday Members of Loyalty circle of the Methodist church will hold the annual picnic Thursday of this week at the home of Mrs. L. P. Crocker on the Jackson ville highway. Those desiring transportation are asked to meet at the cii.irch at 12:30 p.m. Each person attending is to bring a picnic lunch and own service. Roberts enter tained at her home, 1815 Crown avenue. Friday afternoon at a tea which honored Mrs. Ralph Norris and Mrs. Louise Dodson. Mrs. Norris recently came to Medford to reside and Mrs. Dod son, her house guest, is here from Kingston, Penn. Mrs. Roberts was assisted by her daughter, Mrs. George Ras musse'n. Appointments of the tea table were pink, with an ar rangement of pink zinnias and pink tapers. About 60 guests called during the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Roberts were hosts the preceding week for a dinner party, entertaining 16 guests at their home Tuesday evening. Sojourners Hold Annual Affair At McKee Bridge Medford Sojourners, with their husbands and families, held the annual picnic last Sunday at McKee bridge in the Applegate, with about 50 attending. The early afternoon was spent with' swimming and games and the: picnic dinner was served at 5 o'clock. With H. W. Mrs. Swecker, came here from Rowlcsburg, W. j V' ' Newcomers Here From Oklahoma Interesting newcomers to the city are Dr. and Mrs. Joseph T. ; Antony and family. The Antony family came to Medford from Lawton. Okla., and have taken up residence at 2303 Hillcrest Road, the home having been purchased from Dr. and Mrs. W. G. Bishop. This fall three of ; the children will enter school, Paul entering senior high school, Sherry attending junior high school and Joe Graham, grade school. Tcrryl Anne, the fourth, is seven months old. Mrs. Antony is an author, writing short stories and poetry. She has had her material pub lished In magazines o'f national circulation for several years past, Including Blue Book, Ar gosy, Esquire, Good Housekeep ing ond others, and writes under her own name of Arden Antony. Dr. Antony plans to enter the practice of medicine here soon. Mn. Williamson Leaves For Home In Tacoma Mrs. Margaret Williamson is leaving today for Tacoma. Wash., after having spent a few days here as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Deuel. 1100 With Oakdale avenue. Mrs. Williamson is to be director of the medical-social department of the Pierce county hospital. The visitor, who for merly resided here, has been re siding in Denver. Colo. Chlcago Wedding Is Announced By Gold Hill Family Gold Hill Announcement has been made here of the marriage of the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Shoemaker, Pfc. Ed ward Shoemaker. Pfc. Shoemak er's bride is Miss Elsie Gleason, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. i Gleason of Chicago, 111. The wedding took place Aug. ! 6 at two o'clock in the afternoon at the home of Pastor Farden I in Chicago. Attendants were the I bride's sister and brother-in-law, j Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Anderson. For the service the bride wore a pale blue dress with white ac j cessories and carried red roses, j Mrs. Anderson wore a grey dress and her flowers were pink i roses. Following the service a wed ding dinner was served at the home of the bride's parents, 22 guests being present. Pfc. and Mrs. Shoemaker made a wed ding trip to Ashland, Ky., where they were guests of the bride s sister. Pfc. Shoemaker is now sta tioned at Presque Isle air base in Maine, having returned to this country after one and one half years overseas. Subscription Club Dances At Chateau Saturday Evening Last evening a summer dance was given at the Chateau by members of the Subscription club, which plans dances from time to time during the year. About 35 couples attended last night's dance. . Preceding the gathering at the Chateau, Mr. and Mrs. Walter A. Graff, Jr., and Lt. Col. and Mrs. Joseph Burba entertained a group of friends at a buffet supper, the supper being at the Graff home, 2510 Lyman ave. Friends To Honor Former Resident Visiting In City Friends of Mrs. A. J. Loeffler, who arrived in Medford last week from Missouri, are plan ning several informal social events for her pleasure. Lt. Comdr. and Mrs. Loeffler and their family formerly resided here and have many friends In the city. The commander is sta tioned at Park College in Mis souri with the navy. About the middle of Septem ber Mrs. Loeffler will go to Portland to atatend the wedding of her son, Robert Allan Loef fler, and Miss Betty Glaves, Ontario, Ore., which is to take place Sept. 23 at St. Michaels Episcopal church In Portland. Young Loeffler is completing his study of medicine at the Uni versity of Oregon medical school in Portland under the navy's V-12 program. Mrs. Loeffler was accompan ied west by her youngest daugh ter. Marv Ellen, who plans to remain in Oregon and to take up nurses' training this next winter. Miss Grace Loeffler had returned to Medford some time ago and is employed at the air base. The Loefflers left Medford about a year ago for Missouri. Mrs. Loeffler is a house guest of Mrs. A. O. Bauman, 215 North Ivy street. 1 Mrs. Wolfe Returns Mrs. Mary Wolfe, 335 South Ivy street, returned to Medford Thursday from Seaside,. Ore., where she spent the summer with her son, E. L. Albert. Mrs. Wolfe will remain here for a fpw wppks in order to dispose of Medford property and Willi then go to Seaside to make her home. PRICE Si Colony Club Plani Smorgasbord Party For This Evening A smorgasbord supper has been planned for Colony club members for this evening, the affair to be at the clubhouse at six o'clock. Mrs. A. S. Cummins is chairman of the committee makine arraneements for the supper, and she is being assisted by Mrs. Lillian saiaae, Mrs. Charles Pitts and Mrs. George Roberts. Mrs. Fitzhugh Brewer is in charge of decorations. About 60 persons' are expect ed for the supper. Rebekah Lodge Meets Monday Olive Rebekah lodge met Monday night for social and business session, with Maud Daugherty, noble grand, presid ing. Plans were made for Initia tion, to be held in the near future, and for a rummage sale which the lodge will hold in October. Lottie Cave and Grace Pan key were in charge of entertain ment and games were enjoyed.
