In this woman's circumstances any good doctor Is always ready to arrange terms suitable for the TRAILER VILLAGE FOR MARINES' KIN Klamath Falls, Aug. 1 UR) Klamath chamber of com merce executive committee at a meeting today went on rec ord in favor of a request to fed eral housing authorities to make available an ample number of trailer houses for use of fam ilies of Klamath Falls Marine Barracks service men. The action was taken after the committee received reports that many wives of marines are coming here, and that the avail able quarters within the com munity are inadequate in view of this influx. Charles Stark, chamber executive secretary, reported that many men now stationed at the barracks al ready have their families here with them and more are arriv ing hourly. . "Administrative and medical officers do not encourage the men to bring their families here," said Stark. "However, competent medical officers tell us definitely that the presence of a man's wife or family is an excellent aid toward his rehab ilitation. From a health and morale standpoint, It is desir able for his family to be here." The chamber executive com mittee also considered reports of cxtesslve rents being charged service men In some cases here, and various methods of rental control were discussed. No for mal action was taken, but the chamber office was instructed to inquire of the OPA as to whut it plans to do in response to a request by the city council that Ol'A consider the rental situation here. Prospect Prospect, Aug. 1 Mrs. Joe Dnbbyn was hostess for a fried chicken dinner, and an after noon party, in Cascade Gorge park, July 26. Attending were: Mrs. George L. Janticr, Mrs. Edmund W. Pease, Mrs. Elmer Clemens, Mrs. Chnuncey Arant, Mrs. Floyd Kelley, Mrs. Rueben Moore, Mrs. Clell Cunninghtim, Mrs. Frank Hardin, Miss Judith Hardin, Miss Shirley Christcan, Miss Carol Christcan, and Mrs. Dohbyn. Mr. Biid Mrs. Paul Snook re ceived word that their son, Stanley, who is visiting his aunt at Gresham, had an acute attack of appendicitis, July 28. and underwent an operation that dny. Mr. and Mrs. Snook left for Gresham, upon receipt of the message. Mr. and Mrs. Loy Yokum and two children of Glendale have moved to Jantzer Village over the week-end, as Yokum has ac cepted employment In the log ging woods for the George L. Jantzer Lbr. Co. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Clemens and Mr. and Mrs, Floyd Kelley attended to business matters at Medford, Saturday. Dllla Co.) brother, George Rondeau, a pa tient at the Josephine hospital, following a logging accident at Glendale. Mrs. Frank Schmidt and daughter, Sharon Gregory, re turned to their home here July 25, after spending the past five weeks visiting the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Kelley, at Yakima, Wash., and sister, Ms. E. L. Williams, at Morton. Mrs. Schmidt's two older children, Mary and Cecil, stayed with their grpnaparcnts for a longer visit. The death of Sgt. Thayer Carlton in France, June 10, brings the total to six Prospect boys that have lost their lives in this war. Thayer, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Carl ton, was born in Medford, May 30, 1021, and spent most of his life In this locality. He received his elementary schooling and attended high school three years at Prospect, taking his senior year at St. Mary's Academy in Medford, and was graduated there- in IS40. Thayer was a star basketball player during his high school days, and popu lar with his school-mates. He was employed by the George L. Jantzer Lbr. Co., for two years prior to his enlistment in the paratrooper division of the army air corps, In August 1042. Most of his training was in Fort Bcnnlng, Ga., until he was transferred to England a year ago. Besides his parents, and a I brother, Thomas Jr., he leaves two uncles, Herbert Carlton, and Earl Ulrlch, both of Pros pect, and three cousins, Jackie, Selda, and Elva Carlton. Three employees of the Goetz Lbr. Co., Ralph Mann, Roy Love, and Jack Smith, were in jured when their car skidded on the turn between Eidon and Bob Bean's places, on the Crater Lake highway, five miles west of Prospect, and over turned. Love and Smith suf fered only minor cuts and bruises, but Mann was taken to the Community hospital In Med ford, and sustained a broken nose, and several deep cuts about the face. George L. Jantzer had a new steam feed delivered from Klamath Falls last week, and had It Installed In his mill over the week-end. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Jantzer this week are Miss Kathleen Vestal and Miss Betty Walsh of Reese Creek. MaJ. Lynn D. Fargo, veteran of six amphibious landings in North Alnca. Sicily, and Italy, recently told how one Ingenious machine gunner fixed his Arrry ordnanco gun so that, on puli ing a lever, the gun rose from the bottom of the foxhole to fir ing position. Then he rigged up a periscope so he could see without exposing himself. Fin ally with a string tied to the trigger, ho fired the gun from his snug position at the bottom of the foxhole. Eighth Air Force Bomber Sta tion, England, Aug. 1 U.R Ten crewmen of the flak-riddled bomber "Lucy Qulpment" had strange stories to tell today of their experiences after bailing out of their plane while return ing from Normandy. Second Lt. Henry E. Davis. 20, of Centervllle, Ind co-pilot, was taken by English farmers to a minister's house for tea after he landed in a field. While at tea he was Joined by his pilot, Sec ond Lt. Robert L. Mlllhollin, 23, of Gutherle Center, Iowa. Second Lt. John S. Balllet, 24, of Milton, Pa., the navigator, was picked up by some RAF of ficers and given a stiff double whisky. Flight Officer Stanley P. Friedman, 10, of Seattle, Wash., the bombardier, . was "captured" by pitchfork-carrying farmers who thought he was a German. Radio Operator S'Sgt. Herbert C. Goldman 20, of Brooklyn. N. Y., found himself uncomfortably close to a mine In the Channel while awaiting the arrival of a rescue boat. Too -Turret Gunner SSgt. Thelbert W. Neihoff of Quinev. 111., was pulled from the Chan nel by the seat of his nants v-i a rescue party found him. Ball Turret Gunner Raymond J Ro mac. 20 of Chicago, sprained his ankle and was taken in a Jeep to an RAF medical station. Waist-Gunner Sat. John W. Thomnson, 23. of Wykoff Minn., landed in a soft turnip patch and his buddy. Tail-Gunner Sgt. Wil liam C. Bass, 23, of Durham. N. C, came down In the top of a tree after dodging chimneys In a village. But of all the 10. Waist Gun ner Sgt. William B. Lochridee. 20. of Honev Grove, Texas, had probably the strangest experi ence. He picked flowers In the field where he landed. He ex plained to farmers who came to rescue him that he had prom ised the men who packed his parachute that if he ever had to use lt and it worked he would pick them a bouquet. Lost Cornerstone Fovnd RobbeJ Of Whiskey, Papers SprlngfleldIH., Aug. 1 (U.R) The original Illinois state house cornerstone which has been lost since 1888 was found today but lt was empty. A siomII bottle of whisky encased within was gone. The stone was found under the west portico of the state house. A huee crowd gathered while It was extracted. People were tense as lt was turned over to reveal a hole where no hole should have been and a hole where the bottle of whisky and documents sealed Inside it should have been. No one from Gov. Dwlght H. Green on down could explain how the cornerstone got mislaid. And the hero who located lt after 76 years disappeared In the crowd and went unsung and probably thirsty. Up to mid-year. 1944, the U. S. Maritime Commission "M" award for meritorious produc tion had been awarded to 147 firms engaged In building ships and producing ship equipment according to the Maritime Com mission.
