NERVOUS EXHA They told me (at the best ad vertised clinic) there was noth ing organically wrong, said the lady (aged 27) who lost all her teeth shortly after she began doc toring a year ago, that it was just a case of ner vous exhaus tion. They told me to go home and fight it my- Oi Brndy self. She says, In a postscript, "How can I get to use my false teeth? they make me more nervous every day." She says, too, that when she failed to im prove after the ruthless extrac tion of all her teeth, she had a "good physical. Maybe my teeth are more valuable than other people's teeth, but I'd want not only a good physical or two but plenty of other special tests and opin ions (Including, of course, the opinions of competent dentists) before I'd submit to extraction of one or more of my teeth in any circumstance. I think that any physician who, orders or permits extraction of all the teeth regardless of the possibil ity that proper treatment by the dentist might save one or more of the teeth, is a sorry repre sentative of the medical profes sion. And furthermore I think that any physician who dis misses a patient with the sug gestion that the trouble Is "just a case of nervous exhaustion" and the advice to "go home and fight it yourself" is incompe tent and unfit. This unhappy young lady, I assume had some decayed teeth, perhaps infected teeth, and the doctor deemed It wise to remove all the teeth at once. Thk' impaired digestion is bound to lead to nutritional de ficiency, poor assimilation of vi tamins in minerals particularly, even if the diet supplies all the vitamins and minerals required for good nutrition. Of course the average modern refined diet does not supply all the vitamins and minerals the body requires, especially in childhood, youth and young adult life. So it seems safe to Infer that this young woman had some nutri tional deficiency when she first sought medical advice. Such nutritional deficiency is too' commonly ignored or overlook ed bv physicians who harbor j and inoculate patients with the nervous exhaustion obsession.
