Bvjoseph Laltln United Press Correspondent ' Washington (U.R) Travelers In the United - States will cover more miles in 1944 than in any Ingle year in the history ol the country on dtminlsh!n numbers of trains, busses, and passenger cars, governmeni transportation authorities said today. The Office of Defense Trans portation anticipates a 1844 mileage increase of 19 per cent in military and civilian passen ger travel, and a three to six pei cent Jump in freight, on rail roads that were reported to o training to the . limit month ago. There will be virtually no new equipment added, excep' lor locomotives. The difference will be made up from the present stockpile nn expected imports of about 80,000 tons of natural crude. The railroad picture for 1944 starts up like this: Passengers: conservative gov ernrnent figures estimate that travel in 1943 will total 80,000. COO, miles.
