Other USO business was also handled at the regular USO council ses sion at the center on West Main street yesterday afternoon. Reports were read from var ious USO volunteer committees followed by a monthly report by Mrs. Helen Small, USO di rector and Mrs. Penny Fon taine, USO program director. Mrs. Small said that over 10, 000 persons in southern Oregon military and civilian, had par ticipated in the USO program during July- Civilian Defense Activities Gas Mask Instruction Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 8 p. m. in the Senior high school, Col. Eads, chemical warfare of ficer of the Ninety-First Division will give instruction with gas masks and show pictures of chemical w. rfara. All civilian defense people who have not received their gas mask Instruction, please attend this meeting. Defense Classes Beginning Tuesday, Aug. IB t 8 p. m. at .the Senior high school running through August 19 at the same time, classes in the general course of civilian de fense will be given. Final lesson will be August 24. All desiring this general course, which is re quired before arm bands can be assigned and those that have missed one session are urged to attend. A standard Red Cross first aid course will be held In the city council chambers of the city hall starting Friday, August 14. The classes will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 each afternoon ex cept Saturday and Sunday until the twenty hours of instruction is completed. Mrs- Archie Pierce will be instructor. A standard Red Cross first aid course will begin next Monday, August 17 at 7:30 at the Med ford senior high school. The class will be held twice a week. Mrs. Archie Pierce will be Instructor.
