PAGEPTVE Society and Clubs by Betty Shnemaler Past Chiefs Hold Party Past Chiefs enjoyed a social evening at the K. of P. hall last week. Special entertainment during the program included ac cordian solos by William Mcln tyre and Miss Helen Webb sang several selections accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Effie Kurtz. The hall was decorated in St. Patrick's motif with shamrocks and other Irish designs. The dining tables were centered with a blarney stone and clever miniature men fashioned from potatoes and other vegetables. A potluck dinner is to be held at the home of Mrs. W. H. Case beer Friday at 1 p. m. at 1114 South Oakdale avenue. 5. F. Club Holds Dinner S. F. club members enjoyed a potluck dinner at the home of Mrs. Clara Tillie on West Ninth street Wednesday afternoon. The afternoon was spent in Red Cross sewing. Guests for the day were Mrs. Etta Hyde, Mrs. Viola Troutman, Mrs. Peggy Tillie and Mrs. Flor ence Rose. Members in attend ance included Mrs. Lucretia Whillock. Mrs. Lina Dyer. Mrs. Tva Walden. Mrs. Laura Wil liams, Mrs. Mabel Grigsby, Mrs. Ilda Vickoren and the hostess. Mrs. McDonald Returns To Horn Mrs. C. E. McDonald of New- burg, who has been a guest for the past five weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rynning, 16 Rose avenue left yesterday for Eugene where she will spend todav with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edwards of Bend and her granaaaugnier, Miss Roberta Edwards, student at the University of Oregon. Evanson re turned to her home on South Grape street last week from Monroe, Ore., where she has been visiting her daughter. Miss Betty Evanson. While In the north Mrs. Evanson and her daughter attended the concert given by the Seattle Symphony orchestra under the direction of Sir Thomas Beacham in Eugene and visited relatives and friends in Eugene and Corvallis. Work Muting Planned By Group Women's Organization of the First Christian church will hold a workday meeting Thursday from 9 a. m until 4 p. m. at the church parlors. Sewing is planned and a sack luncheon will be served at noon. A talk on "Planning for Food Supply and Victory Gardens" will be given. Activities Jackson Brownies and Girl Scouts par ticipated in the Jackson P.-T. A. program at the schoolhouse Fri day afternoon. Under the direc tion of Mrs. Don Falwell the Brownies sang several numbers followed by the Girl Scout troop number 5 who gave a Russian dance and sang the International Scout song. Mrs. Jeanette Hamp son was in charge of the latter number. Mrs. Don Parsons gave an interesting talk on nutrition and Mrs. Raymond Driver spoke on Scouting. The business session was in charge of the vice presi dent, Mrs. L. E Ogle and the nominating committee for the vear was nnnounced Members are Mrs. E. Coulter, Mrs. Knight and H. W Gustin. Discussion also was held on the April Frolic to be an event of April 10. The room prize for attendance was won by student of Miss Arlene Hay. Later the teachers served refreshments. Washington - Mrs. Marlorie Pena, Girl Scout executive for the Medford dis trict, gave an Interesting outline of Girl Scouting and the place it is taking In the defense emer gency at the Washington school P.-T. A. meeting Friday after noon at the schoolhouse. Two Brownie groups from Washington school under the leadership of Mrs Evelyn How ard and Mrs. Nona Myers enter tained with two dances. Mrs H. O. Colburn outlined the nutri tion program. During the business session the nominating committee for the election of new officers was appointed and members include: Mrs. Leona Crane, Mrs. W. J Cooney and Mrs. R. W. Chll dreth. At the close of the meeting tea was served with Mrs. Arthur Cannon and Mrs. Rollin Jones acting as hostesses with Miss Laura York presiding at the tea table. COMMUNITY CLUB OVERWHELMED BY The appeal for "rooms for single girls," printed on the front page of Friday's Mail Tri bune, met with such Immediate and overwhelming response that the Girls' Community club has been swamped ever since with offers of aid from all parts of the city. The paper had hardly gotten off the press before the phone calls started and they kept up until late at night, as many as 30 being received in the first hour. Not only were the offers from those who have rooms to rent, but from residents who don't care to be listed, but would be glad to provide accommodations for single girls looking for work, at no charge and until work could be secured. One well known citizen stop ped at the club en route to the S. P. station where he was to accompany his wife to Portland for a major operation, offering his entire house to such appli cants, during his absence, under the supervision and control of the organization. The response was so generous and whole-hearted in fact that Mrs. Dolph Phipps, president of the board of directors of the Community club, who made the appeal, yesterday Issued a pub lic statement, thanking the peo ple of the city for their splen did cooperation and the high quality of patriotism shown. She declared it was not only extremely gratifying to the Community club, but was only added evidence that Medford is in the very front rank of war minded and public spirited com munities in the state. T ;l Portland. March 21 UP) Spokesmen for Portland milk producers disclosed today their intention of asking the milk control board for a price In crease sometime next month. The boost is necessary they said to meet emergency de mands and to halt a decrease in production. Producers want an Increase in butterfat price from 80 cents to $1 per pound. It would mean an advance of two cents a quart in milk price, one producer esti mated, but said the lift might be held to one cent a quart if the distributors' spread is nar rowed and certain economies effected. Commenting on the proposed boost, C. E. Grelle, chairman of the board, said: "The situation ... Is getting critical. There is an increased demand and a tendency toward a stoppage of production.
