Hold Party
Past Chiefs enjoyed a social
evening at the K. of P. hall last
week. Special entertainment
during the program included ac
cordian solos by William Mcln
tyre and Miss Helen Webb sang
several selections accompanied
at the piano by Mrs. Effie Kurtz.
The hall was decorated in St.
Patrick's motif with shamrocks
and other Irish designs. The
dining tables were centered with
a blarney stone and clever
miniature men fashioned from
potatoes and other vegetables.
A potluck dinner is to be held
at the home of Mrs. W. H. Case
beer Friday at 1 p. m. at 1114
South Oakdale avenue.

Mrs. Raymond Driver spoke on
Scouting. The business session
was in charge of the vice presi
dent, Mrs. L. E Ogle and the

also was held on the April
Frolic to be an event of April 10.

OVERWHELMED BY
The appeal for "rooms for
single girls," printed on the
front page of Friday's Mail Tri
bune, met with such Immediate
and overwhelming response that
the Girls' Community club has
been swamped ever since with
offers of aid from all parts of
the city.
The paper had hardly gotten
off the press before the phone
calls started and they kept up
until late at night, as many as
30 being received in the first
hour.
Not only were the offers from
those who have rooms to rent,
but from residents who don't
care to be listed, but would be
glad to provide accommodations
for single girls looking for
work, at no charge and until
work could be secured.
One well known citizen stop
ped at the club en route to the
S. P. station where he was to
accompany his wife to Portland
for a major operation, offering
his entire house to such appli
cants, during his absence, under
the supervision and control of
the organization.
The response was so generous
and whole-hearted in fact that
Mrs. Dolph Phipps, president
of the board of directors of the
Community club, who made the
appeal, yesterday Issued a pub
lic statement, thanking the peo
ple of the city for their splen
did cooperation and the high
quality of patriotism shown.
She declared it was not only
extremely gratifying to the
Community club, but was only
added evidence that Medford is
in the very front rank of war
minded and public spirited com
munities in the state.

Spokesmen for Portland milk
producers disclosed today their
intention of asking the milk
control board for a price In
crease sometime next month.
The boost is necessary they
said to meet emergency de
mands and to halt a decrease in
production.
Producers want an Increase
in butterfat price from 80 cents
to $1 per pound. It would mean
an advance of two cents a quart
in milk price, one producer esti
mated, but said the lift might
be held to one cent a quart if
the distributors' spread is nar
rowed and certain economies
effected.
Commenting on the proposed
boost, C. E. Grelle, chairman of
the board, said:
"The situation ... Is getting
critical. There is an increased
demand and a tendency toward
a stoppage of production. How
ever, we can't hold a Hearing on
the Portland price until the Cor
vallis army cantonment prob
lem is out of the way."
