Any .doubt concerning the right of The Dalles Indians to claim Oregon's mythical prep football championship was erased Friday night when the Chuck McGuinness eleven, with 180-pound Keith DeCourcy run ning like a madman, crushed Medford's Black Tornado by a score of 28 to 0. The game was played at The Dalles. The locals, suffering their worst defeat since the 44 to 0 I Eugene setback in 1936, were completely outpiayea Dy me ag gregation many observers be lieve is the finest to perform in Oregon in the past several years. The game ended the season for both teams, with The Dalles finishing with nine straight victories and Medford with seven wins in nine starts DeCourcy, a battering-r a m fullback, scored all four touch downs for the Indians. He crashed over once In each of the second and third periods, and climaxed his terrific perform ance with two more bolts into the end zone in the fourth quar ter. With a big, savagely-charging forward wall in front of him, DeCourcy was almost un stoppable. He carried the ball 32 times for 148 yards, an aver age of 4.6 yards per attempt Only On Threat The Tigers, outclassed but battling gamely throughout. made only one serious gesture toward the Indians' goal line. This occurred in the second quarter, after The Dalles made its first touchdown, when Cato Wray took the ensuing kickoff on his own 10-yard lirte and raced it back 56 yards to the Indians' 34. Ike Orr lost four, then made two, after which Wray fired a forward pass to Bill Wall good for 18 yards and a first down on The Dalles 18. Cliff Jones was held for no gain, Bob Mitchell made one and Wray passed for a yard to Wall. On fourth down, Wray passed to Mitchell for four yards, but the gain wasn't enough and The Dalles took over on their own 12. A fumble by Orr on his own two-yard line set up The Dalles' first touchdown. The Indians, with DeCourcy knifing through the Tiger line for short gains, had marched SO yards to the Medford one-yard line near the end of the first quarter, with an 11-yard gallup by Benny Holcomb being the final shot. Here, however, DeCourcy fum bled on first down, and Stan Smith recovered for the Tor nado on the one-yard line. Costly Fumble The Tigers went into punt formation with Bill Wall back, but the play was an Orr line smash. Ike fumbled and The Dalles recovered on the two yard stripe, and on the first play DeCourcy belted over center for the touchdown. Quarterback Ray Conover converted with a placekick, his first of four suc cessful boots after touchdown, and it was 7 to 0. This touch down came on the second play of the second quarter. A devastating 74-yard drive on only six plays gave The Dalles its second touchdown af ter receiving the third quarter kickoff. DeCourcy broke through right guard for 19, Holcomb added nine, DeCourcy picked up 14 more and then Holcomb raced 25 on a reverse around right end to the Med ford 10. Homer Baker, right half, got six through center and DeCourcy finished it off with a four-yard touchdown blast over center. A spectacular 40-yard return of a 35-yard Bill Wall punt by Holcomb led to The Dalles' third score. DeCourcy whaled away for 14 yards in two tries to the Medford one-yard line as the third period ended and then went over right guard for the touchdown on the first play of tlie final chapter. Santa Claus and Joey the Clown are coming to Medford to morrow, Monday, and want to see them. Santa and Joey are bring ing with them the annual Shell Christmas Show, travel ling in "Candyland," a big red and gold truck decorated with huge peppermint sticks, rhis is the eleventh consecu tive season they have carried tun and gifts to schools, orphanages and hospitals throughout the west. When the side of the truck opens, a miniature theatre is revealed where a rollicking musical puppet revue is given. Santa and Joey take part, of course. Jolliwogs, Ice Cream Cones, Gum Drops and Jelly Beans sing, dance and make merry. The show is unique in using three kinds of puppets puppets manipulated by hand, marionettes operated by strings, and bib puppets with human heads. "At the end of each perform ance, Santa Claus and Joey come to life and distribute candy to all the boys and girls, paging Redskins had their fourth and final touchdown. They took the ball on downs on the Medford 30 when Wall fumbled, recovered and lost six yards, and in six plays surged into the end zone. DeCourcy got 15 In two car ries, Holcomb cracked center for five, then it was DeCourcy for 4, 5 and a touchdown from one-half yard out. That com pleted the fireworks. The Tigers were utterly un able to cope with the Indians' great line, either on offense or defense. The Dalles rolled ud 248 yards on the ground, 8nd held the Tigers to 48, of which 40 came in the last half. The Dalles stuck strictly to land, trying only one pass which was incomplete. Medford attempte 15 aerials and completed but four for 28 yards. The first downs were 12 to 3 for the victors. Cliff Jones was Medford's best ground-gainer, with 28 yards in 10 carries, while Orr made 21 in 13 tries. Rip OF AIR LINE IN EFFECT MONDAY Winter schedules of United Air Lines will go into effect here tomorrow and other changes will be made next FriBay to re flect the inauguration of service to Salem, Max C. Henne, Med ford manager announced yester day. Beginning tomorrow the south bound flagstop Mainliner now arriving here at 5:22 p. m. and leaving at 5:27 will arrive at 5:37 p. mi and depart at 5:42. The southbound plane arriving at 7:07 p. m. and leaving at 7:12 md the northbound plane ar riving at 5:43 p. m. and leaving at 5:48 will be eliminated. These two planes were added to the service last spring, more as sec ond sections than as new trips. Beginning on December 5 when service is started at Salem, the northbound Mainliner arriv ing here at 4:59 a. m. and leaving at 5:04 will arrive at 4:54 a. m. and depart at 4:59. It is sched uled to arrive at Salem at 6:11 and Portland at 6:41 a. m. The southbound Mainliner now ar riving here at 11:32 p. m. and leaving at 11:37 will call at Sa lem and will, beginning Decem ber 5, arrive here at 11:47 p. m. and depart at 11:52. Medford will have an addition al flagstop beginning December 5 as the plane that now flies over here non-stop from Port land to Red Bluff, Cal., will call on signal here, scheduled to ar rive at 2:22 p. m. and depart at 2:27 p. m. This plane will leave Portland at 12:40 p. m., arrive at Salem at 1:05 and leave Salem for Medford at 1:10 p. m. It will eliminate its stop at Red Bluff. The northbound flagstop Main liner leaving Medford at 4:03 p. m. will also be a flagstop plane for Salem, being scheduled to ar rive at the state capital at 5:15 and depart for Portland at 5:20 p. m. (P) The department of immigra tion said today it was taking custody of Ernest Ramsay, now eligible for parole from San Quentin prison, and would re lease him on $2500 bond pend ing determination whether he should be deported to Canada. Irving Wixon, district Immi gration director, said Attorney Aubrey Grossman of San Fran cisco already had arranged Ramsay's bail and that he would leave San Quentin later this afternoon. Ramsay has been (n prison nearly five years on conviction of participation in the slaying of George Alberts, chief en gineer aboard the Point Lobos, in the Alameda harbor March 22, 1936. He was granted a par ole Thursday along with Earl King and Frank Connor, Joint ly convicted. The latter two already have been released. Wixon said Instructions to obtain Ramsay from San Quen tin came from Washington, and that records of his case would be sent Monday to the depart ment's board of appeals for final judgment. C. Those covering the so-called "low grade ores", both mangan ese and chromite, are of particu lar interest to Oregon, Earl K. Nixon, director of the depart ment, said.
