DRIVE FOR $1500 STARTSTUESDAY (Continued Prom Page One) While the bulk of solicitation work In Medford will be done by community chest workers under John C. Boyle, Chairman Moffat emphasized that all vol untary workers would be wel comed. All solicitors will be assigned a district when they obtain their receipt books at the chamber of commerce office Monday or Tuesday morning, each book to contain 10 receipts. Those desiring to contribute to the drive, who are not contacted by a regular solicitor, are ask ed to mail or leave their $1 min imum check at the chamber. Checks should be made out to RMph Sweeney, treasurer of the Medford U. S. O. committee. The Medford U. S. O. commit tee is composed of Moffat. Sweeney, Capt. Charles Cox of the Salvation Army, secretary, nd the following: Lloyd Wil liamson, commander of the American Legion; the Rev. Jo seph Knotts, president of the Medford Ministerial association; Father F. W. Black, E. H. Hcd rick, John C. Boyle, Mayor H S. Deuel, County Judge J. B Coleman, Mrs. Leonard Carpen ter, Mrs. Reese Braley and Mrs Dolph Phipps. The United Service Organiza tions for National Defense, Inc., has been incorporated as a non profit agency by the federation of the following six national or ganizations: the YJrt.C.A.. the Y.W.C.A, the National Catholic Community Service, the Jewish Welfare Board, the Salvation Army and the National Travel ers Aid association. Thomas E Dewey Is active chairman, and 38 governors. Including Gover nor Charles A. Sprague of Ore gon, are acting as honorary chairmen in their respective states. Oregon's quota is $89,- 000. According to press release from Oregon state headquortres of the U. S. O., it Is proposed that the clubhouses will be erect ed by government funds In com munlties most frequented by men from adjacent army camps and naval training bases. These building will be leaned to the United Service Organizations under whose direction the six participating agencies will co operate In supplying personnel! and program. It Is for this pnrt of the program that the u. S. O. will launch its national drive to raise $10,765,000. Operation, of the clubhouses will provide contacts between soldiers and sailors and people of the community, provisions for religious worship, counsel and guidance on personal prob lems, club facilities, educational and cultural services. Informa tion service, transient aid to sol diers and sailors on leave and to visiting relatives and friends. 'The army, according to the press release, "has provided fa cilities for religious worship, entertainment, social recreation and education within the camps themselves. The greatest leis ure time problem, however, does not lie within the military res ervations but In the adjacent communities. Many of these are small and sometimes find them selves with a number equal or greater than their entire popu lation, spending the evening when off duty walking the streets, seeking some kind of diversion." Mr. Moffat explained at Sat urday's committee meeting that Jackson county's quota of $1500 did not represent the amount that would be needed here in rase the proposed army canton ment is constructed and the government builds a clubhouse In Medford to take care of the soldiers who will be stationed at the cantonment. Jackaon county'i money, he said, would become a part of the national fund of $10,763,000, and if clubhouse Is built here the nec essary money for its operation would be forthcoming from the national fund. It would probab ly far exceed $1,500, be stated. Fort Lewis. May 31 (VP) Latest promotions for enlisted men In Oregon's 186th Infantry regiment as announced by Major General George A.
