The Fircot dealgn was created by agricultural engineers to meet the needs of farm families having to build minimum shelter at minimum first cost, and desiring to provide for later additions and Improvements. Floor plan 'A' Is not only an economy-plus deslm but haa features of homey charm and Uvablllty. Note the windows of the living room, both for light value and for exterior appearance. The kitchen Is arranged for good light, ventilation, and convenience. The large passage to the living room makes for simple use of the latter for serving meals, and also provides for the circulation of heat from the kitchen range. The center partition serves as a structural element that carrlea support of the roof directly to the foundation girder and posts. The dealgn permits an addition of bedroom and bath alter nate plan B' at the least possible trouble and expense. In short, the Fircot design la a little masterpiece of engineering to meet the housing needs of large number of farm families. "The building Industry's Home Land Program, as applied by West ern Homes Foundation In six north western state, is aimed at the hous ing needa of such families. The pro gram has been reinforced by the new FHA regulations for Title I, laaa I home-loans, which apply to suburban and country acreage and greatly liberalize the terms for loans on lowest-cost home building. They were chosen as winners from this county In the fourth annual 4-H Club achievement and leadership contest sponsored by the state-wide banking Institutions among the 36,000 club member In Oregon. Two winners from every county In the state were chosen through H. C. Seymour, state club director, in charge of Judging and awards. The 72 county members, together with two winners from Portland, convened in Portland October 11, 13 and IS. In creased Interest and personal achieve ment among members made this year's selection very difficult, ac cording to the local Judging com mittee, made up of L. E. Francis, county club agent; C. R. U (API Senator Connally (D-Tex.) brought to a close the second week of senate debate on neutrality legislation to day with the argument that repeal of the arms embargo would be "the first step toward peace7' Connally took the floor for the ad ministration after Benators Frazier (R-NJD.) and Lundeen (PL-Minn.) had attacked the repeal proposal as being likely to involve this country in the European war. Frazier said removal of the em bargo would be a direct step toward Involvement. The reason the war is going slowly now, he argued. Is that Britain and France are "stalling" to await the outcome of the neutrali ty controversy. Declaring the country should avoid being drawn Into the conflict. Lun deen asserted that Britain and France are "for peace as long aa they can get the pieces, and then they're for war to get the rest." Connally described the opposition statement that repeal would be a move toward war aa an attempt to "delude the country." "Opponents of repeal constantly and sedulously have claimed that the embargo means peace," he said. "Some have accepted their claim without analysis or examination. That false assumption has been ham mered into the public mind wher. the claim Is wholly baseless and un supported. The retention of the em bargo doea not mean peace. It prob ably mean war."
