Walls, president of the Oregon Congress of Pannes and Teachers, conducted a most success ful school of instruction for parent teacher workers Thursday, October 18 In the auditorium of the Methodist Episcopal church South. Seventeen Jackson county P. T. A. units were represented with an enrollment, of 107 officers and chairmen. Mrs. William Holloway, stats music chairman, led the group singing. Mrs. James K. Hoey, president of the Jackson county council, presented Mrs. Walls, who needed no Introduc tion to many of those present who had enjoyed and profited by her In struction last year. The duties and responsibilities of officers and chairmen were fully out lined and discussed for the benefit of all new workers. Mrs. Walls and Mrs. B. C. Foray the, stats P. T. A. vice -president for southern Oregon, both stressed the Importance of the national Parent-Teacher magazine, official publication of the organisa tion, in the development of program material, and commented on Its value to all those Interested In child wel fare. At the luncheon which was served by the ladles of the Chrlstlsn church, Miss Floy Young presented a quin tette of high school boys In three en joyable numbers. . Mrs. Walls especially emphasized the Importance of being stats and national minded in P.T.A. work, since it B only as we work for the welfare of all children that the standard In our own communities are raised. A no-host dinner honoring Mrs. Walls, In charge of Medford City Council, concluded the day's activi ties. Beavers Class Enjoys Meet . The Beavers, 'class of high school girls, of the Presbyterian church, mat for the regular monthly meeting Wednesday night, at the home of Margaret Anne Brown on West Tenth street. Plans were made for the "good deed" at Thanksgiving time. During the business meeting, the following officers were elected to serve for six months: President. Nancy Morrow; vice president, Florence Erdus; secre tary, Emma Jane Brewer; refresh ment chairman, Audrey Price; devo tional chairman, Doris Custard. During the social hour, Interesting games, directed by Nancy Morrow, were played and light refreshments were served, including a birthday cake, made for the girls whose birth days occur In September and October. This class of lively girls, taught by Mrs. Maynard Putney, meets every Sunday morning at 9:45 a. m. In the recreational room of the church. Girls of high school age who are not affiliated with any other church are cordially invited to attend. (AP) Secretary of Labor Perkins proposed today creation of a 13-member com mission to mediate the dispute be tween the C. I. O. and the A. F. of L. She suggested that each organiza tion choose five of its "trusted and experienced representatives" who in turn would select three disinterested persons. The rep resents tives of the labor groups, she said, should have authority to bind their organizations to adhere to any agreement the commission reached. (AP) Sup port by Willamette valley buyers seeking feed and some buying by turkey growers continued to bolster northwest grain markets in the paat week, the United States department of agriculture said today. Barley was fully steady. Growers did not press sales, receipts here totaling only 10 ca riots. Oats, like wise, was steady with receipts reach ing 17 carlots, while corn showed some fluctuation although demand was steady and receipts totaled 33 carlots. .
