(AP) B-hlnd-the-acene diplomacy will pre cede further formal peace negotia tions between the American Federa tion of Labor and John L. Lewis' rebel unions. This policy was adopted by the federation's executive council today after It reviewed the convention's order to continue efforts to end la bor's bif civil war. Ocorge M. Harrison, the federa tion's chief peace maker, plans to talk cither with Lewis or with persons close to the rebel leader within the next few days. Ho expects to sound out Lewis' sentiment toward a num ber of definite peace proposals. He also may communicate with other leaders of the rebel committee for Industrial organization. After these conferences Harrison will send Lewis a formal proposal for a meeting with the federation's peace conference. This letter, by the convention's d J re c ton, will be sent reKardlcsa of the outcome of the In formal negotiations. The council suspended Lewis' united mine workers and nine other unions nearly three months sgo for "Insurrection." NAVY OFFICER'S WIFE VALLKJO, Cal., Nov. 28, (AP) While funeral services were held to day for Mrs. Jean Pomeroy, wife of a navy officer, police continued search for a hit-run automobile driver believed responsible for her death. Mrs. Pomeroy, as, died shortly after she waa found Injured on a highway nesr a night club early Thursday. Sheriff Jack Thornton said he was convinced ahe was struck by an auto mobile. The sheriff said a Vallejo boy, whose name was Withheld, claimed to have seen a black sedan strike her and speed sway, Mrs. Pomeroy, wife of Lieutenant Commander R. K. A. Pomeroy, medi cal -corps. Nov. 28. (&, Armed with tear gas guns, riot guns and rifles, and aided by an airplane. sheriff's deputies patrolled the high ways of the terminus celery district today, under Instructions of Sheriff Harvey Odell to "keep those picket" out of here. The sheriff ordered 300 special deputies Into the barricaded area and ranchers arm with pick handler helped the deputies guard the high ways Into the hundred square miles of the celery district. An airplane droned through foggy skies, on the lookout for possible picket highway caravans. The only untoward Incident re ported was the arrest of two men charged with picketing near the ter minus. The deputies reported turning back two truck loads of men they alleged were striking workers. Orowers said celery movement-was "about normal."
