In Washington ttate today.
The State Bar aaaoclatlon's I emu
lative committee prepared to poll all
attorneys of the state aa to their
attitude toward legalizing this form
of punishment for crime.
The committee recommends the
whlpplng-post for men convicted of
two felonies, and for men commit
ting any crime of force and violence
or with deadly weapons. The lash
would be restricted to msle offend
ers over 31 who are physically able
to be whipped.
Opposition to . the whlpplng-post
sprang, somewhat surprisingly, from
women believing in "equal rights and
equal responsibilities." Miss Reah
Whitehead, a Seattle Justice of the
peace, made the point that "worn
en's skins are no tenderer than
men's."
"Let's have women citizens lash
women crlmlnsls snd n. i lashers
for men." she said. Mist Whitehead,
however, Is opposed to . -eollzstlon
of the whlpplng-post, hei attitude
being that If It be legalized, women
as well aa men should be punished

FULL PACIFISM
T
LONDON. Nov. 28. The Arch
bishop of Canterbury, primate of all
England, today rejected the doctrine
of full pacifism "from the point of
view of practical realties.
IN the garden of the old Page
house, Sally found dreams and .
romance.
Closing her eyes, she drifted
back to the days when she had
pretended on this very bench
that she was captive prin
cess shut in a walled garden.
Awaking, she saw a young
. man standing in the shadowy
moonlight.
'Are you a ghost?' he asked
pleasantly . . .
And thus began a charming
romance.
