At the first banquet four years ago 34 carriers were present: last night there were 41. Talks oa various phases of newspaper circulation were given by Ardo Stocks, Bob Archer, Willlsm Goodman, Glenn Harrison, Alvln Thorbus, Harold Hartiell and Billy Strang. Several other carriers gave impromptu talks. Mich., has been visiting his aon-ln-lflw and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. T. V. Williams, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pray of Horn- brook, Calif., spent last week end as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Furry. Berthold Hearn of Portland return ed home after having spent a week with Mr. and Mrs. A. Hearn. Accom panying him north was Miss Bernlce Reames, who will visit her grand mother In Portland. Mr. and Mra. C. V. Buckner and Dean Logan returned Wednesday from San Jose, where they visited friends and relative. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Wilcox returned Monday evening from a vacation trip which took them north to Seattle. where they called on Prof. E. A. Whitman at the University of Wash ington. They followed the coast route down to San Francisco and Oakland to participate In the bridge opening exercises and also to visit friends. Mlas Elva Caster was an overnight guest at the Standard home recently. A program of plays and songs will be given by the grade pupils at the school Wednesday afternoon. Plans for the bazaar to be given by the Thursday club December 10 ! at the Engle hall have been complet ed with committees announced. A meeting of the members will be held at the hall on Tuesday, December 8, with each member bringing their contribution to the rummage sale and fish pond, and also the baz&ar. The committees appointed are as follows: Bazaar, Elva Briscoe, Jessie Barkley, Mabel Stancllffe; rummage, Marie Furry, Marjorle Wilcox: refreshment, Cornelia Barnes, Elva Furry, Addle Stead man; fish pond, Nettie Hall craft, Celery, sweet potatoes, olives, cranberry Jelly and everything else but the turkey at Huaons Confec Fresh butter-toasted nuts for your Thanksgiving dinner. Dele gates from Crater Lake Union, which Includes the Christian Endeavor or ganizations or southern Oregon, will meet In a three-day convention open ing Friday morning, November 2T. and closing Sunday night, Novem ber 29. The sessions will be held In the First Christian church of this city. and the Congregational, Presbyterian and Christian churches are co-oper- aiing in plans for the entertainment of the young people who will attend. Registration may be made through the committee In charge for 25 cents or at the opening ol the convention for 36 cents. The convention banquet will be held Saturday night In the social rooms of the Congregational church, for which there Is a nominal charge. The Rev. Herman S. Relchard, min ister of the Presbytarlan church of Grants Pass, will be the principal speaker for Friday's sessions. The Rev. w. R. Balrd, psator of the Med ford Christian church, will speak dur ing the convention sessions. Dr. Walter Myers, state field secre tary, and Howard Cole will appear on the program, aa will others of state wide note. Mayor T. S. Wiley will voice the welcome of the city and the Rev. James E. Morgan, pastor of the con vention church, will welcome the del- egates in the name of the churches. All young people's organisations of other churches of the city are in. vited to attend the sessions. Including the alleged victim. Willis Lavender told detective that Julia Wathen. 22, Induced him to buy her some drinks and then went to an apartment. He asserted that Fred K. Looney appeared and threatened him for as sociation with his (Looney's) wife. Lavender said he gave the couple 50. The woman and Looney denied the charges, the woman claiming Laven der came to her apartment while ahe was there. Looney said he did not draw a revolver or threaten Lavender or receive any money. The fourth person held was William Doss. 35, a barkeeper, from whom Lavender claimed he bought the drinks.
