Mlaa Ida Klclnhammer and nephew, Harold Hammer, of Modesto, Cal., wore guests late last week here at the home of the formers brother, A, s. Klclnhammer. Mr. and Mrs. Arli Throckmorton were recent dinner guests at the home of their daughter, Mrs. William Han sen, at Medford. The occasion mark ed the Blst birthday anniversary of Mrs. Throckmorton, who received many gifts. Mr. and Mrs. 8. B. The dance was attended by 200 people. Friends here are glad to hear that Mm. T. M. Rowden of Oak Grove, formerly of Ruch, Is much Improved In health, following several months' Illness. Leo. went to Talent Sunday, where they were guests at a dinner honoring Mrs. M. L. Hartley, sister of Mar. Hoffman. Ward Banister of Portland waa via ltlng frlenela at Ruch Sunday, where he resided during his childhood and attended grade school. Recently Mr. Banister has been employed In Klam ath county, Tho Ruch sewing club met at their club room Tuesday with a good at tendance, the day being devoted to quilt making, which project they have chosen aa their winter program, and as a result of which each member will have a new quilt t the end of the club period. F Irvine, editor of the Portland Jour nal, received a letter from President Roosevelt ' stating that federal pur chase of the Ochoco timber project has been deferred until congress makes additional funds available. The president expressed regret that the purchase had to be held back because of lack of money. LaGrande Woman Dies. PORTLAND, Nov. 8. tfp) Mrs. Bertha Slater, 01, a native of La Orando and an alumna of the Uni versity of Oregon, died at her home j here after a lengthy Illness.
