Mr. and Mrs. Arli Throckmorton
were recent dinner guests at the home
of their daughter, Mrs. William Han
sen, at Medford. The occasion mark
ed the Blst birthday anniversary of
Mrs. Throckmorton, who received
many gifts.
Mr. and Mrs. 8. B. Schmledlng,
owners of the Bagley planing mill at
Eugene, have returned to their home
after spending two weeks as guests of
their son. W. S. (Bill) Schmledlng,

C, H. Elmore returned Saturday
from several days' business trip to
Rose burg.

Derby were gueste of Mrs. L. C. Port

gypsy, and Lloyd Hanacam of Central

was attended by 200 people.

Irvine, editor of the Portland Jour
nal, received a letter from President
Roosevelt ' stating that federal pur
chase of the Ochoco timber project
has been deferred until congress
makes additional funds available. The
president expressed regret that the
purchase had to be held back because
of lack of money.
LaGrande Woman Dies.
PORTLAND, Nov. 8. tfp) Mrs.
Bertha Slater, 01, a native of La
Orando and an alumna of the Uni
versity of Oregon, died at her home j
here after a lengthy Illness. She was '
a former president of the Sons and
Daughters of Oregon Pioneers. Fu
neral services were set for today.
