To place the buying of used cars and used trucks Atlll more securely on a basis of re liability and confidence, la the pur pose of a unique plan which the Dodge Division of the Chrysler Cor poration Is introducing to the pub lic through Its Irganlzatlon of over 5000 dealers. According to C. E iSerlng. the com pany's director of used-vehicle mer chandising, the dealers' cooperation in the scheme has now reached propor tions warranting the giving out-ejT de tails to the used -vehicle -buying pub lic whose Interests are to be safe guarded by the new plan. "In earlier days of used-car selling, dealers often were handicapped 07 the Idea of buyers that It meant the pur chasing of 'second-hand' or "below par' vehicles and that buyers took eertAtn risks In the transaction. "Especially aa far as Dodge dealers are concerned, that attitude Is with out grounds," explains Serlng. 'Today the motorist realizes that when he purchases a used automobile or used truck, the most important element In the transaction U the hon or and Integrity of the manufacturer that made It. In addition, the pur chaser relies on the honor and Integ rity of the dealer selling bun a ve hicle that has had some previous use. 'That the rank and file of Dodge dealers already enjoy the confidence of the used-vehicle customers to a remarkable degree 1 shown by the fact that they, In the first seven months of 1S, sold 871,337 used cars and trucks: Oun nepalrs. YOUR MONEY GOES FARTHER IN A GENERAL MOTORS CAR SHELL FEATURES I Motorists no longer have to be both ered by annoying squeeks and hard riding caused by dry spring. This newa la the result ol months of study In the Shell oil company laboratories, where engineers have been working on a method of lubricating covered type springs, according to Shell's lo cal manager, C. V. Star buck. The new process consists of an ex elusive method of applying a new pro duet. Shell spring Stabilising Com pound, so thst it forms layers be tween spring leaves and stays in place for many thoumnda of miles under severest conditions, he said. Shell cprlng stabilizing compound was created as a result of the difficul ty encountered by lubrication men In maintaining a suitable film of lub ricant between tha leaves of new "covered spring" types of cats. This difficulty was aJso experienced on some "open type" springs, as ordinary grease would readily squeere out or wash out when coming tn contact with water. ' Shell's new product positively will not squeeze out once applied or wash out when coming in contact with moisture the product being Jnsolu able In water, Starbuck said. In addition, Shell has developed an exclusive method of applying this new compound between the spring leaves, regardless of type. The compound forms Isyers between the leaves and assures quiet, easy riding. Shell stations and authorised deal era are giving special demonstrations of this new service during the month of August.
