With 53 delegates from south ern Oregon Attending the annual home interest conference here this week. Jackeon county hu the dis tinction of sending the largest num ber of delegates of any county In the state. Seventeen of the 18 units u Jackson axe represented. Southern Oregon also Is well represented In th numerous conference activities. Angus Bowmer, dramatics Instructor of the Southern Oregon Normal, offer ed constructive criticism of plays pre sented In the dramatic festival Tues day evening. Mr. Bowmer continued to Seattle to attend tfne northwest drama conference at University of Washington. Trail home extension unit presented Its play, "Albany De pot." Tuesday evening, the members of the cast participating in a frolic Wednesday evening at the Kampus Kavere. Sponsor Scholarship. Members and alumni of the Jack son county executive committee, elso members of the 'Oregon State coun cil, attended the oouncll meeting Tuesday forenoon, when a new con stitution was adopted and sponsoring of a 125 scholarship fund was decided upon. In the absence of the presi dent, Mrs. Effle Birdseye of Rogue River, Mrs. A. L. Heacock of Clacka mas county presided. Members from Jeekson county attending were Mrs. Bertha Young. Mrs. Rita Meyers. Mrs. Lee Port, Mrs. Jennie Hutchinson and Mrs. Mabel Mack. Alumni members present were Mrs. J. H. McCracken. Mrs. Ethel Lathrop and Mrs, Mabel Thornton. Three of the committee members were unable to be here this week on account of Illness. Jackson county went on the air Tuesday morning. Mrs. Mabel Meek and Mrs. Rita Meyers speaking on extension activities In home eco nomics in their county. Mrs. Minnie Blsess of Trail presided at one of the group meetings held, and Mrs. Rite Meyers also presided at a group meet ing In cookery. The conference program opened Tuesday noon with a luncheon In the Memorial Union, with Miss Thelma Gaylord acting as state leader of home economics, presiding; the afternoon program including a lecture on education and the family by Dr. F. M. Hunter, chancellor, state system of higher education. A fine program of lectures on va ried topics Is being presented, as well as group meetings devoted to Indi vidual points of home economics, such as child study, cookery, consumer buy ing, home furnishing, vegetable gar dening, recreation and song leader ship, nutrition., and others. Noted Speakers Heard. Among noted speakers on the week's program are Dr. J. Hudson Ballard, pastor of the- First Presbyterian church In Portland, who gave a fine lecture on personality and the tre mendous responsibility of the family In building up this trait In a desir able way in the child. Dr. Edward Slason. professor of philosophy from Reed college, gave an excellent lecture Wednesday afternoon on the import ance of studying the lives of Amer ica's noted men, rather than Idealiz ing figures of European history. Among other speakers are Dr. O. P. Chambers, professor or psychology here; Mrs. Alice Ernst, professor of English at University of Oregon; and Mrs. Lillian Petri, professor of music at Oregon State college. Convocation Wednesday was a pop ular feature of the week's program, when the men's glee club, the Mad rigal club, and the collcgo orchestra, were presented. This at te moon, the last day of conference, a style review by glrla of the college and commercial stores will close the program. Late afternoons are devoted to teas and tours to various points of Inter est over the campus. Including the home management houses, poultry farm, museum, greenhouses, McDon ald library, and various departments of the domestic soience building. The Oregon Mothers club is furnishing courtesy cars to transport guesta to hotels and dormitories. . GRAND JURY CALLED TO The grand Jury, George Trelchler of " Central Point foreman, will be called next Tuesday, February 18. District Attorney' George Codding announced this morning. The grand Jury Is expected to conclude 1U In quiry before Monday, February 34, when a new term of the circuit court opens. The grand Jury has before it a number of unfinished investigations, Including the baffling death last No vember of Geo.
