The year Just past a yenr of def inite, sustained progrow. carried the nation a long ways back toward sound economic recovery. And, more Impor tant, the passing year left the prom Is of even better times ahead. In the vanguard of the 1035 recov ery parade, the automobile Industry more than kept Its promise of a year ago to produce and sell 3,500,000 new cars and trucks. Latest available fig ures Indicate the Industry turned out more than 4,000,000 units during the year. Despite this big sales year, the in dustry still faces the largest replace ment market In Its history. Surveys show that 7.000,000 cars In operatic f on American streets and highways nro seven years old, or older. As the average age of a motor car Is estimated at eight years, this means that almost one third of all the cars now In operation will reach the old age limit In 1036.
