(UP) -Farmers of Iowa are mobilizing a militant army, to be known as "Minute Men." to assist In protecting agricultural interests against any crisis. More than 18.000 men will be organized be fore December, said Charles E. Hearst, president of the Iowa Farm Bureau, which Is sponsoring the movement. When the "Minute Men" are ready for action, there will be nine of their number In each township of the state, according to Hearst. This new division of the farm bu reau will act as "a flying wedge" to present accurate Information on the national agricultural program to far mers In each county. "Through them," Hearst pointed out, "agriculture will have a working army which can obtain more concert ed action when progress made by or ganised agriculture is threatened by privileged Interests." During the past four months more than a dozen counties have been or ganized. The farm bureau reported 80 counties, which unanimously fa vored the "Minute Men" organization at a recent meeting, are mobilizing forces. There are 90 counties In the state. The chief purpose of the "army" Is to combat huge volumes of propagan da being poured into the state, Hearst explained. He said much of this literature Is detrimental to agricul tural Interests. (UP) A new automobile ssfety campaign Is In op eration In Illinois, where state high way police are conducting a state wide test of motor vehicle brakes and enforcing other provlslona of a new trafflo code. The campaign brings Into use new sections of a traffic code enacted at the recent session of the Illinois gen eral assembly. The major section of the new code requlrea the testing of brakes of all motor vehicles operating on state highways or city streets. The law requires that all automo biles not passing the tests must be repaired and sent through the testing mm again.
