Marshfleld and North Bend have Joined In a mad race to see which can be first In for mally and legally changing the of ficial designation of the town to that name. A proposed merger of the adjoining towns under a single administration the consolidated city to be known as "Coosbay." failed this week. North Bend rejected the consolidation plan, and then decided It would change Its name to "Coosbay." spelling the title as one word. The two towns are lo cated on Coos bay which Is written as two words. Now. In a formal legal notice, Marshfleld has decided to call a spe cial election August 10 for a charter amendment to cnange the city's name from Marshfleld to Coosbay. Residents of the town believe they can beat North Bend to the change by a week or so. Inasmuch as certain legal difficulties would make It im possible for North Bend residents to swing Into action within 30 days.
