Ex terior painting Is taking the lead in the volume of repair and modernisa tion projecta being undertaken over the country under the stimulus of the Better Housing Program of the Federal Housing Administration, ac cording to an analysis of 1.000 typical Jobs picked at random in several cities ranging In sire from 1.840 population to a 34,000, The study showed that this type of work accounted for 330 of the 1.000 Jobs analyzed, and represented 2. 1,000 of the total of si 30,000 spent on all the Jobs Included in the sur vey. Interior decoration, which In cludes Interior painting, accounted for 140 Jobs, for a total cost of 7, 000. (UP) Trest ment of minds and bodies weakened by the use of narcotics on a acsie never before attempted has been undertaken by the United State government with the recent opening of the federal narcotics farm near here. The government plans to reoelve patients who might once have been considered incurable, and. through natural corrective processes, rehabili tate them for useful citizenship. There Is no prescribed "cure" In the social reconstruction of addicts Each case it atudled and treated In dividually by the most productive meani known to medloal science. Project Cost Ifl.OOO.OOO. The narcotics rehabilitation pro ject here cost close to 15,000,000. There are 13 new buildings and the farm covers 1050 acres of Kentucky's blue grass country. The first patients were brought here from Leavenworth, Kan,, fed eral penitentiary. They immediately were placed under observation for a three-week period. At the end of that time, they bean an almost normal life on the farm. . From time to time, patients will be brought here from other Institu tions. Although most of them have been convicted of violating narcotics laws, there will be few of the dan gferous criminal (ype accepted, Patients On Prohntloii. Pstlente will be put on probation by the courts, making It conditional that they be treated here until cured. Voluntary patients also win be accepted, providing they apply through the .courts and agree to re main here until cured. Thla latter class of patients will pay ai a day board. The first step In the general treat ment will be to stop the use ot narcotics aa rapidly ss the patient's condition permits. Then the body will be built up through exercise. diet, work In shops and on the farm. recreation, education snd psycho-therspy. Dally Lectures Scheduled. Persons physically depleted will re ceive a milder form of withdrawal treatment.
