First Formal Dance Next Saturday Night At New Town Club Oregon Leader of W.C.T.U. to Visit Bi-County Institute Mr. Ada Jolley, state W. O. T. U. president, will bo guest speaker at the bl -county institute to be held In the parlors of the First M. E. church Thursday, April 38. Delegations are expected from Grants Pass, Ashland, Rogue River and Reese Creek unions. This will be an all-day session, the morning session opening at 10 o'clock. At this meeting reports will be given by the presidents of the local unions. Discussion on the Union Signal will be lead by Mrs, Lulu Howard of Ash land and on the Children's Farm Home by a delegate from Grants Pass. A covered dish lunch Ito be served at noon, all ladles being asked to bring a covered dish and sandwiches. The afternoon meeting opens at 3 o'clock with a talk by Rev. Rosa Douglas of Grants Pass on "Evangel- Ism and Temperance." Several mem bers of Medford union will present a playlet, "Temperance Tides In Ameri can History." Mrs. Ada Jolley will give an address on "Alcohol; What la Is, and What It Does." There will be musical numbers at both sessions of the Institute) and a cordial Invitation Is extended to all who can attend these meetings. The addresses In the afternoon will be especially Interest ing and Instructive. , Medford W.C, T. U. will hold a rummage sale Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4, the place to be an nounced later. A large crowd enjoyed contract and auction bridge, pinochle and 600, prlr.es go ing to Mr. Route for contract, Mr. Oall for auction. Mr. Bellinger for pinochle, and Lillian Cole for 500. Lovely refreshment were served by the committee. Covered Dish Lu nth eon Plnmtrd by MIMleto Club Mistletoe club will have a covered dish luncheon Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Dorothy Scilpter, 60 Rose avenue, at 1 o'clock. Members who have quilt blocks are requested to bring them at that time as the quilt will be awarded at the follow ing dug meeting. Members are also to bring an article for the white ele phant sale, which will be held at this meeting. Plans have been made and Invita tions will be mailed to members of the Town club for the first formal dance to be held In the new quar ters. The committee In charge promises that It will be a gala af fair and advises members to reserve the date. Saturday night, April 37, for the occasion. Activities at the Town club have given way largely during the past week for preparations for Easter, but when Its observance and special events are concluded It Is expected that many attractive spring parties will make the club a popular center for activities of the social throng. The outstanding event of the past week waa the dinner given Thursday evening by K. W. Kendrtck as a fare well party for A. J. McQee of Yreka, special agent for Standard Oil Co., who has been transferred to Twin Falls, Idaho. Twelve representatives of the company were present. Preparations are being completed for the first bridge tournament for active members of the club, which la to be held Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. Cash prizes will be given and light refreshments will be served. The committee which la receiving reservations for the event Is Mrs. W. F. Qulsenberry, Mrs. Edwin Durno and Mrs. Frank Farrell. It Is ex pected that about 30 tables will be In play. Tuesday Is ladles' day at the club, and there will be other activities dur ing the week before the formal dance on Saturday night, which will mark the end of the month. Past Pocahontas' Will Lead Meeting Next Friday evening. April 36, the past Pocahontas' will have charge of the business hour of Pocahontas lodge. Birthdays for this month will be observed and the attendance prize given. Following the business meet ing a social card party will be held for the members. Auxiliary to Give Puhllo Card Party Mrs. O. E. Huklll will be hostess, at her home on the lower Applegate road, to a public card party next Thursday afternoon, April 35, spon sored by Crater Lake Post No. 1833, Veiorina of Foreign Wars. A covered dish luncheon will be served to those attending at 13:30, followed by card playing. Bridge and five hundred will be played. Prizes will be given. Anderson and George Aver Ill, low prise going to Mattle Luman. For pinochle. . high scores were won by Vera Thomas and Ed Petttt and low by Myrtle Pettlt and Herbert Thomas. Huffman of Azalea, Ore., in this city Saturday morning, to the Interest of many who had become acquainted with the couple during the several days they have been guests in Med ford. The ceremony was held In Med- county court rooms with Judge E. B. Day officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Huff man were to leave today to make their home In Douglas county, where Mr. Huffman has mining interests. Rrames Chapter To Have Birthday Reames Chapter. O. E. Music lovers were delighted with Antoinette Detcheva's appearances here during the summer, and her concerts at Southern Oregon Normal. In Medfcrd and In Grants Pass were given great ovations. A graduate of the master class of the Vienna State Conservatory, where she waa winner of the first prize in piano, ahe waa soloist with the Bach Society in Vienna and has appeared ui concert In Vienna, Sofia and many other capitals of Europe. She will play a large group of the meet famous concert piano pieces In the literature of music. Lawrence Hubert Is a graduate of the conservatory of music at Seattle, who has studied with many of the best teachers and concert artists on the Pacific coast. He was with Ru- blnoff and haa played In the larger theaters In Los Angeles and San Francisco, being musical director ol national broadcasting station In San Diego. Mr. Hubert will play the famous Mendelssohn Concerto, which Is one of the most difficult concertos In the repertoires of world famous violinists.
