PAGE FOUR MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, OREGON, TIIURSDAT, FEBRUARY 28. 1933. Indian Behemoth Will See Action on Tonight's Wrestling Card" CHIEF STRONGBOW FACES JIM HEALY IN OPENING BRAWL It will be a tough eo-mlaut dan of wrutllng for Don Wagner, big ex-Oregon State football atar, when be exchanges grips snd groana In the top bout of a double main event card tonight with the myatc nous Masked Marvel, meanie of meanlea who not only kicks, bites, pulls hair and applies unorthodox bolds. but uses a strange "pepper" In the eyes of his opponents despite the best of refereelng. To make matters worse for the lanky farmer, who standi nesrly head taller than the Marvel and weighs 229 pounds, the mysMrlous mesnle Is In a rsgeful state of mind from an experience at Klamath Falls when he was mobbed for his unruly mat work by enraged spectators, Thev attacked him as he was leav ing the arena, after the had slugged the referee and fouled nis opponent. The hocded one ranks at the top of the various disguised wrestlers as far as box office sttractlon Is concerned. Tans hope to see him de tested, yet are fascinated by his rough and tumble performances that always show plenty of color. He never discloses his nsme, even to the promoters, who say he Is uniden tified everywhere and has yet to lose his lamoua black mask. Wagner Is a popular grappler In Medford, where he haa always dis played a clean, fast brand of wrestl ing featured by bone-crunching leg holds. "Chief' Strongbow. huge Shawnee Indian grapple.r will make his first appearance here when he meets pug nacious Jimmy Healy of Ban Fran cisco In the first bout of this color lul hug-test. The behemoth Indian, who welgha 275 pounds, promises to be one of the grestest wrestling attractions ever to visit Medford. Not only his atse snd knowledge of Indlsn holds but his rough and tumble technique make him unique among wrestlers, who term him as most formidable. Healy, who wrestled to a drsw here last week with Joe Hubks, In one of the fastest matches yet seen at the armory, la also In for a bad evening, but la confident that he will be able to take care of himself. Al though he will be outweighed more than BO pounda, the Ban Franciscan himself Is no slouch. He Impressed fsns In his last demonstration here and will be a favorite In tonight's show. The refereelng will be up to Fire man Ray Frlsble. Ring Ruffian ' FARFWF1 1 PARTY Si KT 'r'-'l j He hu a reputation for treating; rlngmates and even referees tn an unethical manner, but what Masked Marvel (above) Is going to do to big Don Wagner, ex-Oregon State football player, In the top bout of a double main event program at the armory tonight, la even worse than fans ex pect, declares the mysterious ring ruffian. L REDWOOD CITY, Cal., Feb. 38. Wade, stepmother of Miss Conner, and al leged ha attacked the girl on Febru ary 12 when she repulsed hie asserted advancea. The youth, however, wasnot arrested until Tuesday and Is now free on 9360 bail. HUEY WOULD HOLD ERNOR'S s By 31 10 15 SCORE OVER PHOENIX FIVE Playing a sparkling game of ball. Russ Brown's champions romped home with a 31-18 victory over the highly touted Phoenix town tesm In that city Tuesday evening. Playing an even-up game until the third quarter, the Champions fea tured a close checking game. At the end of the third quarter, Big Bill Bates went wild, dropping five mark ers In in a period of seven minutes. Leaping Leo Ohelardl proved to be the outstanding defensive man on the floor, stopping many Phoenix tries for field goals. Pete Montgomery, Phoenix star, was removed from the game late In the fourth quarter with a badly wrenched ankle. Bates. Baker, Brown, Estes, Geb hard, Pierce, Ohelardl and Don Steu art made the trip. "It la with pleasure and anticipa tion of a clean game that we accept the challenge of the St. Mnry'a All Btars," atnted Brown, Champion man ager, this morning. ball E OF TIGERS IN ASHLAND TILI With only one more day of waiting before the final game of the year for the Medford Tigers, they are resting today In their lair, preening their claws In anticipation of their struggle with the Ashland Grizzly In Ashland tomorrow night. After having already lost any chance of attending the state tourna ment, the Medford squad Intends to do ltn best against the Llthlans and give them a "going away party." The fact that the floor la much smaller than the one here will be a definite handicap to the Burghermels ters, but they refuse to be down hearted over the prospects. If the locals play the brand of they are capable of playing when they are "on." and If the Llth lans play the aame brand that they did when the two teams met last week, a Medford win Is not out of the question. Most of Ashland's scores came from long shots from well out on the floor, and the Tigers have been drilling hard on a defense for such shot. With Smith's bad hip still trou bling him, he will not start the game. In his place will be Campbell, who has been raging through the practice tilts this week like a veteran, per forming pertlcularly well under the net. Paired with Campbell will be Luman, who has proved a bulwark on defense and a demon on offense since he stepped Into the picture at mld-year. Luman Is a steady and calm player and possesses a wicked eye on free throws, always an advan tage to a team. At center will be the lanky "Stretch" Ettenger, who consistently takes the tlpoff from all opposition, and who played the game of his life against Ashland last week. He de clares he will surpass his own efforts tomorrow. The two guards will be Sears and Kunzman. Both are ball hawks. Sears haa been working nicely at the guard position, after a transfer from forward, leaping like a cat to take Ettenger's tlpoffs. Fast on his feet, and fast under the basket. Sears will be a monkey wrench In the Llthla machinery. Kunzman, who haa play ed almost eevery minute ctf every game, got moat of his off-form maladies worked off in the first Klamath game and has been playing sterling ball. Reports from the Ashland head quarters still Indicate that they are not -cocKy," but private reports con tinue to filter through that they really Intend to breeze through the game without mussing their hair. A huge delegation from this city plane to Journey south to watch what they hope will be an upset. 4 BOWLING Communications BATON ROUOE. La, Feb 2fl (Pi Senator Huey P. Did you ever have the opportunity to observe the results of your, perhaps, thoughtless acta when you exterminate some one's pete by the poison route? Perhaps not, as the afflicted animals usxially return to their young owners who suffer such agony of mind and spirit that they usually lose faith to some extent in mankind. If your stage of development still permits you to commit such wanton acta, won't you please be human enough to give our pet an Instanta neous, painless death. Mrs. Evans dog was not the only animal poisoned In that part of town last week. Again I ask, "Why do you use such unspeakable methods?' There wilt be no answer as, naturally, you can't come out In the open and talk It over. INQUIRER. (Name on file.) Medford, Feb, 27.
