At a menting held Wednesday the Girls' league of senior high school elected the following officer for the coming year: Dorothy Burgess, presi dent; Betty Thorndlke, vice-president; Helone Balade, secretary, and Mildred Buckles, treasurer. .The following ware nominated by the members of the Olrla' League council at their regular luncheon Monday: For presldont, Alice Mae Shirley, Mildred Drury, Dorothy Bur gess and Alleen Latham. Vloe-preal-dent: Betty Thorndlke. Mary Kem, and Betty Vllm. Secretary: Virginia Porter, Amy Elliott and Helene Balade. Treasurer: Mildred Buckles, Virginia Llndley and Anna Bcheel. These girls are selected for their dependability, former experience and ability to fill the office. , A Girls' league meeting was held Immediately following the council luncheon for the purpose of nomina tions from the floor and campaign speeches. There were no nominations from the floor for president, vice-president or secretary. Pauline Bogera and Betty Paste were nominated for treasurer. Alleen Latham, Mildred Drury, Pauline Rogers and Helene Salade declined their nominations. Mildred Drury and Helena Salade's resigna tions were not aocepted. 1 i Campaign speechea were made by the candidates and various members of the league. . After the election Wednesday Alleen Latham, who has filled the office of president for the past year very suc cessfully, thanked the girls as a body for their co-operation. L DANCE YEAR'S CLIMAX By Joyce Banish. Tonight at 8:30 at Medford high achool Is the big formal of the year. The custom In past years has always been for the Juniors to have a Junior prom and the seniors the senior re ception, but this year the two classes have combined their efforts Into one Junior-Senior formal, ' The beautiful scenery used In the "Mikado" la to be used In decorating the gym for this formal. The follow ing senior committee Is In charge of decorations: Harold Drove, president of the senior class, chairman: Alene Ray and Bob Sherwood. The Junior committee: Betty Vllm, chairman; Vernea Campbell, Cyril Sanders, Anna Verne Campbell, Cyril Sanders, Ann Mr. Leland Mentzers shop boys have been giving a great deal of aid In the placing of the scenery and other work In connection with the decorating. Programs for the dance were de signed and msde by the following committee: Seniors, Bill Prentice, Phyllis Phythlan, Virginia Llndley. Waunlta Wilson, Bob Young. The feature for the evening will be arranged by Pat Young and Luclen Smith. Invitations Tiere taken care of by Helene Meier. , The orchestra committee, consist Ing of Harold Qrove, Lewis Campbell and Bob Young has engaged Dlnty Moores orchestra to play for the dance. The classes cordially Invite all par. ents to attend. Tne success of the preparations for this formal Is largely due to the able direction of the class advisors, Miss Maurlne Carroll and Mr. Mentzer of the senior class and Mrs, Wllma Kin oald, Mra. Justin Smith and Mr. G. D. Thompson of the Junior class. PIANO AIRPLANE IN 'FLYING DOWN TO RIO' A piano-plane, something entirely new In the field of both aviation and muilo, makes Its appearance In "Ply ing Down to Rto." . . Its practicability was proved by Vin cent You mans, celebrated composer of the music In the picture. Youmans used the ship while composing the production's theme song, "Flying Down to Rio." This song, according to the composer, Is a symphonic ar rangement of the rhythm, from throb bing motors and whirring propellers. Pioneer raiment, fashions of a hun dred years ago, will be In vogue In Medford and Jacksonville during Ore gon's Diamond Jubilee celebration In Medford and Jacksonville next June. These garments will be especially popular during the pioneer parade on Thursday when all participants are urged to wear old-time garb. Mrs. J. L. Taylor has agreed to de vote her time to faahlontng these clothes at Jublleeheodquarters. Per sons wishing to take advantage of this offer are to bring their own material, which will be made Into; dresses peculiar to pioneer days. A small charge will be made for the : labor.
