Everything li lu readlne&a for the public presentation of the rural dramatics contest playa at the Junior high school auditorium, Med ford, Saturday evening, February 34. There will be three one-act playa given by the Bellview, Eagle Point and Jacksonville Oranges. Each of V.iese playa won first place In their respective district in jthe county wide dramatics preliminaries. The plays will be Judged Saturday even , ing by Dr. Arthur Taylor of the Southern Oregon Normal school, Rev. Wm. J. Howeii of Msdford, and MIsa Louise Howard of Grants Pass. An Annual Affair The contest la held annually un der the supervision of Mabel C. Mack, home . demonstration agent, as a part of the extension project in recreation and dramatics. The pur pose of the contest la to encourage more recreation and dramatics work among adult groups, and to aid lu better play selection and better pro duction. A dramatics training school for play directors was given In January through the extension service with Jack Stuart Knapp of the National Recreation association as Instructor. An approved llat of playa to be used In the contest was prepared by the home economics extension depart ment of Oregon State college, thua eliminating the necessity of scoring plays on selection. Playa will be Judged on direction and acting only. Interest In Finals The playa this year have been ex ceptionally fine and much Interest 1s being shown In the final contest, The drama t lea committee, composed of Claire Hanley, Jacksonville: Victor Burse 11, Central Point; Mrs. Elsie Hoover, Roxy Ann. la In oharge of arrangements for the final showing, Mra. The program la as follows: Piano solo by Cyril Sanders; Col lection of Scotch Airs, Joe Nee, Jack sonville; "Mlas Maria," presented by Eagle Point Grange, directed by Mrs. Madeline Barrett. Tills la a charm ing play with an 1860 setting, and la taken from Tales of Old O Hester. The cast la as follows: Mlaa Maria Welwood, Yeta Olson; Miss Rose, Mary Weld man; Mr. Charles Welwood, William Miller; Mrs. Matilda Bark ley, Jease Mlttelstaedt; Mr. Ezra Bark ley, Clarence Davles. Bellview Has Comedy The Bellview Grange play Is a very effective comedy entitled "The Dear Departed," concerning the division of property of the dear departed one. It la directed by Mrs. Cella Andrews and the cast la as follows: Mrs. Sla ter, Delia Inlow; Henry Slater (her husband) Floyd Carter; Victoria (the daughter), Ada Andrews; Mrs. Jordan, Mrs, Wade Wallls; Mr. Ben Jordan, Walter Longstreth; Abel Mer ryweather, Edwin Dunn. The Jacksonville Grange play la entitled "Ambition" and la a tense drama of love, honor and fame. H la directed by Joe Nee of Jackson-' vllle. The caat la: States Attorney ( owens, wunur Takei; his wife, Doris Conger; William, tfw butler. Herbert Gtfford; Estell, a witness, Mra. W. Arnold; Hat tie, the maid, Florence 01fford. The highest scoring play will be entered In the state contest at Ore- gon State college, March 3, at the ' Home Interests conference. The club has the uae of this gymnasium between the hours of 10 and 12 each Saturday morning. Twenty boys attended the first meeting and gym class held last Sat urday, The boya played basketball and are soon to form a league among themselves, which will run for one month only. FREE CLINICS FOR PETS SCHEDULED Tomorrow the second in a series of six free clinics will be given at the Rogue Small Animal hospital, 1445 North Riverside, by Dr. 8. E. Phillips, It was announced today, and all ani mal lovers are invited to bring their pets for diagnosis. The clinic will open at 9 o'clock and continue until fl o'clock.
