(UP) Like a boom development of the '80s. the Grand Coulee dam site. 20 miles north of here, Is rearing a town as yet un named, on sagebrush snd lava rock. The grounds of the dam site are already dotted with white tents and new, unpalnted frame buildings which have sprung upon land which hns been the stamping grounds for Jackrnbblts and coyotes since time Immemorial. 200 on Scene. These clean canvas tents and gleaming board structures are the homes of nearly 200 workmen em ployed by the core drilling, test pit ting snd open trench contractors rushing preliminary work on the $63,000,000 Grand Coulee dam. The dam when completed Is ex pected to furnish power and water for over a million acres of fine soil, which has lain unproductive because of lsck of Irrigation facilities and water supply.
