ALMTRA, wash. (UP) Like a
boom development of the '80s. the
Grand Coulee dam site. 20 miles north
of here, Is rearing a town as yet un
named, on sagebrush snd lava rock.
The grounds of the dam site are
already dotted with white tents and
new, unpalnted frame buildings
which have sprung upon land which
hns been the stamping grounds for
Jackrnbblts and coyotes since time
Immemorial.

These clean canvas tents and
gleaming board structures are the
homes of nearly 200 workmen em
ployed by the core drilling, test pit
ting snd open trench contractors
rushing preliminary work on the
$63,000,000 Grand Coulee dam.
The dam when completed Is ex
pected to furnish power and water
for over a million acres of fine soil,
which has lain unproductive because
of lsck of Irrigation facilities and
water supply.
Thirty-seven u. 8. reclamation ser
vice engineers are on the Job, work.

the Almlra headquarters.
Their surveys range from the dam
sits on both sides of the Columola
river 80 miles north along rocky geo
logical formations.

has been sold to the Coulee Develop,
ment company. It Is here that i
townslte. tentatively named Grand
Coulee, has been plotted and 28 lota
already sold.

gan; Jacksonville Grange, Mrs. Mabel

Bohnert; Eagle Point. Miss Minnie

Ten votes will be given for each
five cents apent by any Individual,
and a grand prize will be awarded
to the Grange whose contestant gains
