It Is known for the huge cement plant that has furnished barrel upon bar rel of material for construction pur poses. It Is known for the Incident that, many years ago, brought It i'-s name the pocket of gold upon the nearby mountain top that paid hun dreds of thoussnds of dollar to Its discoverers because the rose-colored quarts was so rich in the precious metalAhat the ore could not be mor tared, but had to be melted down. But it la best known also, and per haps known best to newspaper men. as the place from which Ben Hur Lampman came to the Oregonlan. It was there, back in the year when the ' Titanic was sunk, that Ben Lampman went into the business of publishing the Gold Hill News and gave it so much of his genius that he was call ed, four years later, to Portland to become a staff member of this news paper. Stops for Gas Bill Foster of the Portland Airways, stopped at the Med lord airport briefly Sunday for lunch. and had his plane serviced by Tom Culbertaon, city airport superintendent. In Sacred Heart L. E. Ross of 312 Bliss avenue, this city, is a medical patient at the Sacred Heart hospital today, and was reported getting along nicely this afternoon. Flue Fire The city fire department was called to 135 South Central ave nue at 8:45 o'clock this morning to extinguish a flue fire at the Dr. E. D. Elwood residence. No damage result ed, according to the, firemen. Gaddls Returns Earl C. Gaddls of this city returned to Medford last night from a business trip to Sacra mento, and reported that he made the trip back In nine hours. The snow was all cleared irom the high way from the California line south, he said, but, not on the Oregon side. Undergo Operations Mrs. Chs. Gooch of Mt. Shasta City, cal., Leon ard Cone of Ashland. Chas. Shafer of Jacksonville, and Mrs. L. C. King of Ashland are all patients at the Com- munlty hospital today, having un dergone operations last night and this morning?. McAdoo Ship Here The Lockheed' Vega passenger ship belonging to W. a. MoAdoo, and piloted by Harry Ash, stopped at the Medford munl lpal airport this afternoon, to service the ship, and the four passengers and pilot had lunch at the airport cafe.
