Taking the country as a whole, the number of layers In farm flocks this fall and .winter Is expected to be about 4 to 6 per cent greater than last year. This expected increase may not result In a comparable Increase In' egg production, however, the re port points out, as winter conditions a 'year ago were unusually favorable for high production, because of gen eral mild weather and cheap feed. "Though egg prices In Oregon on July 35 were only 48 per cent of the 1926-1930 average for that date, eggi and poultry In generat have not been especially low In price on the coast compsred with moat other farm prod ucts," the report said. "Low prices are due mostly to poor demand and low purchasing power of consumers rather than to high production, sta tistics show. , "Carlot shipments from the west ern states to date In 1933 have been 40 per cent less than during the same period a year ago. Storage stocks of eggs for the entire oountry are about one-third less than a year ago, but no shortage Is expected. Commercial hatcheries In western states show a sharp decrease In numbers of chicks hatched. "A larger supply of poultry for markets this fall and winter Is fore seen. As the number of chickens raised Is estimated at 7.5 per cent larger, while abundance of chesp feed will probably result In heavier birds." Prune Shippers Stabilize Price By Organization SALEM, Aug. a.
