PAGE THREE with glaases. Four quilts have been tied and given to needy families. A quart and pound shower was held from which baskets were filled at Chrlstmaa time. Americanism Mlsa Margaret Kerr, chairman. Miss Kerr reports that a brief sketch of the life of Benjamin Franklin was given at the January meeting. In February two trees, an Oregon maple and a silver-leaf maple were planted at the' Washington school Arbor Day? In March a radio program was given commemorating the bl-centennlal of Washington's birth. In April a silver placque waa presented to a Junior high school boy who won the American Legion Auxiliary essay contest. In June the auxiliary, through the news papers, urged display 'of the flag on National Flag Day. Community Service, Mrs. William Holloway, chairman. Mrs. Holloway report that a free health clinic was held and over S00 babies were examined. In Septem ber the unit gave S6.00 to furnish mate for crippled children at the Washington achool. In October a placque waa given to the high school. Ten dollars was given to the Girl Scouts. Gave 10 to the Community chest, assisted with Armistice Day program. Gave the library 110 for books. Assisted In the Muncle drive for the unemployed. Gave Com munity service program over the radio. Gave as.oq for the Pershing hall In France. Unit Activities. Mrs. Walter Olmscheld. chairman. Mrs. Olmscheld reports that In No. vember an Armistice Day luncheon was held with 78 present. In Octo ber the officers' tea waa held at the home of Mrs. John Pluhrer. In Jsnuary a Gypsy was held In the Armory. In March a food sale. In April the Easter Mardl ball waa held, lu May a dinner waa served to 175 National Guardsmen. In June the Fldac program was held. Music. Mrs. Warren Butler, chairman. Mrs. Butler reports the music club met twloe a month for practice and held radio programs. Refreshments. Mrs. Roland Smith, chairman. Mrs. Smith reporta all members have responded satisfactorily. Membership. Mrs. Tim Daily, chairman. Mrs. Dally reporta 87 paid up membera with 10 new members this year. Our Gold Star mothers are Mrs. Mary Jacobs. Mrs. R. I. Stuart. Mrs. Dora Dunham. Mrs. J. W. Hawk, and Mrs. B. Wycoff. Poppy- Mra. Cole Holmes, chairman. Mrs. Holmes served as general chairman. Margaret Kerr, advertis ing. Belva Aiken and Malsle Daily. the unit, which ony means the dis continuing of regular meellngs. but the work will still be carried on. W. R. C. a very active 'organization with 2908 membera In the state of Oregon. Sarah A. Andrus, the only active charter member, gave an lntereatlng talk on the organization of the corps. A beautiful bouquet was pre sented her. Several vtsltora were present from Central Point and gave Interesting talks. Ashland corpa sent congratu lations and best wishes for the oc casion and regrets at not being able to be present. At the close of the meeting refreshments were served. The Woman'a Relief corps win hold but one meeting each month occasion of the 40th anniversary of Activities of Legion Auxiliary Chester A. Arthur W. R. O.. Med- ford, held In the Armory, July T Local president, Mrs. Reed, read report of the Corvallls convention. Groups of corps ladles are doing much to relieve distress smong the needy, Visitors responded briefly with speeches, among them being Mrs. Steinbaugh, Grants Pass, pass department president; Mrs. Reed, Granta Pass corps president and Mrs. Gleaaon, president of Central Point corps. At the close of tha meeting refreshments were lirved from tablea, beautifully decorated with bowla of aweet peaa. Guests from out of town weret Mesdames Steinbaugh and Reed of Oranta Pass, Emma Gleaaon, Etta Purkeyptle, Dora Jones, TUlle Maple, Mattle Smith, Gipsy Richmond, Olloe Blackford. Eva Smith, Clara Parrs) and Iva Coplnger, all of Central Point, sales. The unit sold 3000 popples and had 800 unsold. During the sale a very clever window display of Flanders Field with rows and rows of white crosses In green fields with red popples growing every where caused much favorable com ment. SUk Cull and Relief. Mrs. Jacobs, chairman. Mrs. Jacobs reports 33 bouquets sent to the sick during the year, 31 of these coming from Mrs. Jacobs own garden. Many sick calls were made. National Defense. Mrs. Belva Aiken, chairman. Mrs. Aiken reporta that a letter was sent to the legislature opposing the discontinuing of the military training at Corvallls. Summer vacation is now here for Relief Corps Holds Anniversary Party Thursday Afternoon Chester A. Arthur Relief Corps No. 34 celebrated lta 40th anniver sary Thursday afternoon. The room was decorated with bas kets of flowors. Anna E. Stlne baugh. past department president: Louise B. Reld, past department treasurer and Emma Gleaaon, presi dent of Central Point corps were In troduced and each presented with a corsage of red, whtte and blue sweet peaa. After fhe business meet ing President Ethyl Weed gave a splendid report of the convention held In Corvallls, She reported the With the close of the Auxiliary year the following fine report have been submitted by each committee chairman: Hospital Mrs. John Pluhrer: Mr. Pluhrer reporta that the Medford unit belonga to the "Check a Month Club," aendlng 13.50 each month to the Portland hospital. The hospital committee alao sent ten sun pillows. Mrs. Webber, state hospital chairman, reported the ahelves filled so clothing has not been sent thl year. Child welfare Mrs. Ceroid Parker, chairman. Mrs. Parker reporta that 75 people neve been helped with food and clothing during the year. Two children have been treated and fitted during the aummer months. The next meeting will be August 4.
