In presidential years the percentage, of votes have mounted 'to slightly more than 50 per cent. Governorship Main Interest. Although the contests for the congressional posts have caused : considerable discussion, the race for governor In which six Re publicans and four Democrats, In cluding the incumbent governor, A. Jackson county observers pre dicted a race between Corbett and Norbliid with Corbett leading "by a nose." observers qualified this statement with the possibility of a 'surprise" at the eleventh hour. Hull, whose house to house cam paign in Medford and Jackson county st ooil him in good stead, was reported a good second and Joseph "no better than fourth." Support of the various candi dates in the rural districts' of OotiMlas county is relatively un known, but In the city of Rose burg Corbett hns the most active Observers do not restrict them-j selves In saying that the contest' in Josephine county will be be-; tween Corbet' Norblad and Jo seph.
