" Whose Is this?' asked the man. 'It is ours. replied the wife. As his wonderment Increased he asked where she got it and how she had saved so much. " 'You remember when we were married you promised me one dol lar for every kiss. You always kept your word. I saved the money and this is the result.' In his astonish ment he e x c 1 a 1 m e d, "I wish I had done all of my kissing Jit home." I "The above Is a fine illustration ! of trading at home," said "1111" Dollar. "Kvery dollar you spend in Medford remains here to help the community. Every dollar you spend out of town makes the com munity that much poorer. Do your buying ami your kissing at home, and the money will be there to hnlp you when it Is most needed. "Two excuses nre usually given by the buyer of out of town goods, SCHOOL PLAN CHANGED FOR. '"The first is thatl the class of goods he desires can not be obtained from the home merchants; the second, that the purchase can be made more eco nomically from an out of town house. Neither excuse is a valid one. J "Thoro Is no articlq that Is need-1 ed nr wanted by a citizen of Meet-j ford which cannot he bought from the home dealer or through him. j The stocks of merchandise carried j in this city are complete. . "The fact Is, tha some people who complain that the things they want cannot be bought at home are those who think it gives them the semblance of superiority if shey ure able to boast -that their clothing was bought in San Fran cisco or that their home furnish ings were bought in Portland, Thev usually admit, however, that Med- j ford people nre acceptable as asso I dates and that Medford dollars nre i beautiful to heboid. "The other excuse, that Pur- l chases can he made more econom- Ically from an out of town house j can be exploded at any Medford I mercantile establishment. Taken from open stocks, any dealer in the Jolty will sell goods at maii-ord.-r I prices, the customer remembering ' that he is able to see and examine j the article he desires to buy; may carry it home without extra de livery charges and may also enjoy the privilege of credit accommo dation If he is worthy. Scores of storUs illustrative of the fallacy of the argument that mail-order buy ing is economical, can be cited by any .Medford dealer from his own experience. "Then why should anyone buy the goods outside of Medford county? Anything- that may ie wanted can be bought right hero, and. at prices which are no higher, and In many Instances are actually lower than mail-order quotations "Money that Is earned in Med ford should he spent In Medford. It will buy Just as fine goods and just as much goods right here as anywhere else in the world." (Copyright, 1520, Fred Mozart.) TRACE FATHER'S PATH ON Dr. Edwin P. Cleary, well-known Portland physician, now retired, left from San Krnnclseo with Mrs, Unary Saturday on the Pan ama' Pacific liner Mongolia, eh rout n to New York by way of the jPnnama canal. This is Dr. Ovary's ; first seavoyage. His father, liny. Edward 11. t Henry, D. D.. traveled west by way of the Isthmus of Panama In 1S51 and wrote a diary giving a descrip. tlon of his journey. The method of travel followed by Dr. floury In making the transit of the Isth mus in a luxurious liner will be In sharp contrast to the laborious Journey of his father 78 years ago. It was necessary then to cross thv neck of land hy a Jungle trail on mule bock alter going up the Chug res river H miles by boat from the Atlantic side. Ships wnrn then boarded at Panama for the trip up the west coast, which took a month sometimes. Orcgonian. Dr. and Mrs. Cleary are pioneer residents of Ibis county, and fr many years lived on Oriffln creek. Dr. Geary practiced In this city and Jacksonville for many years. GOLD HILL SCHOOL TO OOID HILL, Ore., Oct. 3. The Gold 1 1 lit school is now form ing an orchestra. H will he under the instruction of Mr. Holts of Medford, the school board having secured his services for the Coming year. A number of "students are practicing. In the near future the orchestra Is expected to be one of the main movements of the school. The Gold Hill school has not undertaken an orchestra for the past several years a nd since th Is year's work has started, unusual interest is being shown by the stu dents. ' Another factor Is the hearty co operate n giv-n to the- school teachers and the school board by the parents of those students en tering into the orchestra. With both beginning and ad vanced Instruction by Mr. Mods the school will soon rank among the first of Its sire In the valley In music Instruction.
