W. l'ra zer, general sales manager of the Chrysler Corporation. "In building Chrysler cars, no part is considered too small nor too Insignificant to receive the most thorough tests that the engi neers are able to devise for it. "An example of this was brought out recently when a cer tain mako of chromium-plated door handle was considered for use L on Chrysler cars. Before Chrysler engineers would consent to its be ing placed In production on the cars, it had to pass several rigid lesis the most Important ot which was the salt spray test. Those who live near the sea shore know that kult Is one of the worst known cor rosive agents and to prove the ability of the rroniium plate on these door handles lo withstand corrosion, samples of Oie door handles were lashed Ti-r hours by a fining saline bath. II was only after they had survived tills lest without harm Unit they were con sidered eligible for use on Chrys ler cars. Tests given other parts of Chrysler cars are just as rigid. ' "Kour hundred . fifty different parts of Chrysler cars are made of rubber und consequently a great deal of precaution is taken to be certain that the rubber used is of ihe very best ouallly. When a i-hipnie.nt of rubber comes into the factories, fpecimens are immedi ately selected and put to test. They uio roasted for hours at a time in the rubber ageing ovens. Then they are tested for strength and "stretchahllily" In tensile machines to prove their quality under the most severe conditions. Only after lhe Miecimcns have passed all the tests satisfactorily Is the shipment f f ruhber passed for use in the oaking of the cars. "One of the final tests at the Chrysler laboratories Is the Ilel- man roller test, to determine whe ther or not Ihe completed car is' correctly made and flawlessly as- j semhled. In this test a car is i picked at random from the final assembly line. It is anchored over j a ferlea of eccentric rollers ami j there it runs under Its own power. ( Hoad conditions far worse tluin i.ny it will ever encounter on the open road are here produced. The ear bounces from one sie to the j other, as it would over Hie rmlfcli- j est roads at high speeds, is twi-ted and utrained in every way po-fible j und when it withstand this test. Chrysler engineers know that It is properly made and properly as- ; semhled."
