Wliiln two AmerityHis l'lcw the ocean, two others were breaking the ret'itelintr ami en durance record, only a few hours old. f This is the important thinir. that an air engine can run without stopping over M I hours. In another year or two that will mean around the world in a week. And only the oilier day France, celebrated Bleriot's flight across the channel, when Northeliffe (rave him a prize of fifty thousand dollars for "a marvelous achievement." The (icrmans have built a real airplane. It took reporters nn hour to no through its three decks, machine shop, sleeping quarters, etc. It will carry 1:20 people, and soon fly to sec us. This plane is built to stand a hurricane and land on rniijrh waves.- With one switch the pilo. can shut off six of the 12 mo tors, change the gas, or stop any motor. One knob stops all motors in emergencies. THAT'S an airilaiie, and only the beginning. ; The Iiussiau government's new gun, firing lf0 shots per minute, is faster, lighter, bet ter than our Lewis gun. Weighing 17 pounds and 8 ounces, about half the weight of the Irfwis gun, it sends a bullet 42l!:l feet. It is replacing the heavier, slower Lewis gun in Iiussiau airplanes. Of course, we are not afraid of anything that walks and shoots, but it might be as wel! to be friendly with Russia. The Arctic explorer,-Stefan son, and a companion, Ander son, have lived for a year on nothing but meat, eating enor mous quantities. l'liysicians say their health is belter, their resistance, to dis ease strengthened. The foriiur record stood at 174 hours and 5:t seconds. The official time was 2:13:02 p. m. The fliers made a perfect land ing on the field after failure to es tablish contact on the thirty-eighth refueling. When the two whips failed to make this contact, the Angeleno circled the field and mine down without difficulty. The ship had been in (he uir for 24ii hours, 43 minutes and 'M seconds. The land ing came after more than lo days of flight. CChVKR CITY. Cul., July 12 (A) "We -rame down because the tail group started fluttering,' said Ioren Mejidell. ichtef pilot, as he clambered nut of the Huhl air se dan after 246 hours, 43 minufs and 43 seconds in the air. "We give the engine credit for everything," he said, smiling to ward the Wright Whirlwind motor, the second-hand power plant which has kept bunmns in the air beyond all previous records. "1 knew it was tue last when we approached the Huhl for the thirty eighth refueling," said Paul W bit tier, millionaire pilot of the old second-hand refueling ship. "They could not keep their ship straight beneath us. It dropped away. liObked like a maneuver at first. j Then 1 saw something was wrong j with the tail group of the Ange leno And 1 saw there would be no i refueling." J "They just couldn't keep the ship ion a straight course with this tail ! trouble." continued WbiMier. "So I they waved a signal and left us j and then made a perfect landing." I Mrs. J la Itefnhurt, wife of the younger of the two record break ers. It, H. (Hetel Keinhart, clasped - him in her arms as he climhed : from the ship.
