There was much activity In the la dies' contest as revealed by the vote count today where gains were made by ConRtance Ames. Rose Billings. Mrs. N. I. Martin, Victoria Andrews and Icel Edwards. In today's standing there are only eleven votes between the first three cotnestants while Con stance Amesis only a few behind In fourth place. Nina Dusenberry has been quite aiek the past week with pneu monia but is able to be about again. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Kimball accom panied by Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Miller were Grants Pass visitors on Tuesday.. The Herman sawmill resumed oper ations this week and expects to soon be running regularly. - Mrs. Geo. Dusenberry and wife were business visitors in Grants Pass the past week, where they purchased a. pure bred Jersey bull from A. F. Long who has a fine herd of registered Jerseys. Cen tral Point, It la understood, carried off the laurels of the meet. Two differ ent teams contested, the flrnt team and the second. The latter did much better than the former. As yet the local team has been practically un beaten. "without a doubt they will keep the same record thru out the season. The club includes about 17 members, but among: these are the experts that can well be listed: James Watklns, L. Grlirsbv. Guy Tex. John laev. C. Painter. The above named form the regular teams that play in the tourna ments. The club was organized about a month or so ago and is becoming more popular all the time. The fire alarm was sounded Wed nesday evening to spread ttife alarm of fire that was discovered in the store building of Freeman, & "Wiley. As it was. not much damage was caused, only the flue was burning, but if it had not been discovered n serious fire might havo developed. A great deal of smoke was caused by the fire, mak ing it appear that there was a more severe fire. However the fire depart ment promptly arrived on the. scene, Two lines of hose were put in use. The Central Point basketball team met the Talent teams at Phoenix Sat urday night. The result of the games was victory for both the boys and girls teams of this cit$. The prelim inary, the girls game, was hotly con tested thruout, being very close, 15 to 10. The boys game was even more interesting, for thruout the first threo quarters Talent was over five poirrts ahead, but during the second quarter the home team forged ahead and turned what seemed certain defeat into victory by the score of 16 to 14. To Everett Faber goes the' honor of getting the first five points in the game, to Dwight Brown that of get ting the most points, scoring three field baskets. The. two teams play Butte Fulls In that 'city tonight. This will he about the last game of the season. . ' Mrs. Bennidon, representative of the Albertlna Kerr Nursery Home at Portland presented a short talk to the high school student body in behalf of that establishment. She stated that another drive will be or Is being put on at the present time to raise fund for the sustenance of the home. She cited the wonderful work that Is being done for the homeless and abandoned babies and to carry on the good work aid mupr be had. She gave a resume of the expenses during the past year, which totalled a considerable figure. She presented her plan to sell tags at a nominal price by the different students, and to the one who sells the most tags a suitable reward is given. "The Love Pirates of Hawaii" is an operetta that will soon be presented by the high school to the public. As yet the entire cast has not been select ed but that will be done, by the end of the week. The snior and Junior classes are also working on plays that will be presented before th'4 school year Is over. The many friends of Miss Marie Wright were agreeably surprised to learn of her marriage to Joseph Col lins of Table Hock. The happy young couple were married at Redding. Cal., last Saturday morning, the fact being 'completely unknown to their many ; friends here for several days. The young may is a stuaent or tne nign school, being a senior, and has practi cally lived here all her life with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wright. The bride is well known thruout the com munity as a charming, kindly and Industrious lady, always having a kindly word for her friends. The groom has been a. resident of Table Hock for many years, and Is very well known in Central Point and Is highly respected by all. At present htf ia In the employ of a transfer company In Medford.
