ed Press). The major leagues Joint
session recessed late today after
adopting the majority, of 17 amend
ments proposed by Commissioner K.
M. Landls, with slight changes Ja, all
those adopted. This action, the prin
cipal one before the session, was
taken without any sign of friction, the
magnates asserted. 4
One of the principal amendments
of those adopted related to extension
of Land is control over umpires de
cisions or disputes arising from them.
The commissioner announced at
the start of the meeting that the
amendments were proposed to him by
various club owners and were not his
own.

redoubled their watchfulness at pub
lic meetings, and especially at sport
ing events, as a precaution against
disorders. This step is taken because
of the feeling engendered by the re-

SAN BEDRO, Cal., Dec. 12. Sea
planes this afternoon joined In the
search for eight chief petty officers
of the navy, two civilians and a ten
year old boy who are believed to have
been lost . or driven ashore on Ban
Clemente island.
The party left here last Friday for
a hunting tiin on the Island and was
due back Sunday. Naval officers did
not become alarmed until todny when
the commanding officer of the U. S. S.
Procyon asked for assistance from the
commander in.ch.ief. . The tug King
fisher Was Immediately ordered out.
Shortly after noon a naval seaplane
and a plane chartered by friends of
the missing men hopped off to Join
in the search..

resentative Nelson, republican, Wis
consin, chairman of the meeting, was
instructed to draw up legislation
seeking the changes If action is not
taken by the president or Mr. Wallace.

had a narrow escape when their auto
went, off the 'fhighway near Hilt and

Perl, were enroute last Saturday to
Med ford from Los Angeles. On Bailey
hill, five miles from Hornbrook, the
car began slipping: backward in the
several inches of snow and the three
got out and tried to hold It, but It
went off the' road and after going
forty feet down on the steep declivity
of 200 feet, was stopped by a rock.
