' Strike matters have been unusually quiet at this terminal since a month or so, but of late several of the shopmen have been arrested charged with carry ing concealed weapons, a change o venue being taken to Justice Taylor's court at Medford. Strikebreakers are guarded, and appear to be handling the required work. Gene Moody has gone to Sacramento where he has secured a good perma nent position. Doc Blake still holds the fort here in a professional way, but later on will Join his family at Newport For the time being there are several important matters before the council demanding urgent attention, hence the city dads are sacrificing vacation pleasures in order the better to attend to interests of their constituents. Don't get excited if the. city water at times especially if you are supplied from tho upper intakes assumes a milky hue. At this summer stage of a low supply, the water gets mixed with air, a circumstance which does not imply contamination, but merely aera tion, a condition which Improves the liquid rather than detracting from its qualities. The only contention is over rates, the question being raised wheth er or no meters are running up water rates on patrons when the utility sup plied is blended as between air and water, instead of aqua pura exclusive ly. A board of experts will Investigate the air clause of this water problem. Arthur Peters has been a fireman pro tern as substitute for members of the regular force away on a vacation.
