It's a curious thins, but it it always the queer thing about people that I soe fiiHt. Queer elrtiies, queer manneriHm.s. J've followed a woman for hlo'-ks on tho strct just to noo some r liner trick she had with her uinds or tho way b!io walked, or something about her dress that was out of tho ordinary. For one thing It interests me, and for another I want- d to make a mental note of it for future use. In my business you never can tell when something of that sort will come in handy. "For instance the awkward use of my hands and arms in my first dance in "The Sweetheart 14 hop." When I was a little girl a young wonuin who lived ne.xt dour to us always did that when she came to a dance, and many a boxing of tin oar I've gotten from my mother for imitating her. My mother was afraid I'd offend lur, but I guess my merriment was justified judging from t he wny the audience laughs at my Imitation. I've got a lot of things like that stored nway in my memory, and I'm always on the look out for new ones. I im vci use the same mannerisms twice. "The mistake, I think. Hint many character actresses make Is allowing themselves to acquire mannerisms of their own. One actor or actress crcat I a part and some peculiar grimace or wink or tone of voice, just suitit hat part, and nianes a hit with the audience. I'robably the next role Is quite different, but he goes on uslrp that same funny trick and repeats il ntil it finally becomes a pail of on f self and It isu't at all funny to the au dience any more. My Idea Is to use all the mannerisms you can, but other people's not your own. The speaker made special ref erence to the .two sharp fights on school nis Iters of the session; tint over the fire text book bill and that regarding the Portland teachers' ten tiro of office bill. HOW TO USE YOUR DENTIST There would be little dread of the dental chair if patients would make regular visits and have llieir teeth examined at least twice a year. If this plan is followed, the cavities will be small and can he filled with a minimum of pain. Tartar deposits should also be carefully removed and the teeth thoroughly cleaned nt the same time. If this plan were adopted by every one a great many of tho ills, which arc the result of tooth neglect, would be overcome. No lady ever looked beautiful with illrty teolh. 1)11. HKMtV II.
