TOURIST HURT BOOSTS FOR GD. Herbert Cuthbert, secretary of the VortbwestTourist association, was in jledford today with the Ad club auto caravan, and expressed great interest in the proposed county bond issue for good roads, to bo voted on tomorrow. "A good road to Crater Lake" he said, "and one down the Applegalo to the Oregon caves, will bring Jled ford and southern Oregon the most profitable crop imaginable, n crop which takes out no money and brings In hundreds of thousands of dollars. The northwest is just awakening to the value of tourists in dollars and cents, a value that California has ex ploited with such signal success these nmny years. And don't forget your auto camping grounds. In 'Walla jJValla alone, which hasn't one per cent of the scenic and climatic ad vantages of Jackson county, in one day there were 2791 families camped in their grounds. Of these 4 7 fam ilies located in Walla Walla district permanently. It's tho same story gverywhere. Prepare comforts for :he tourists and they will come, give ,-ou part of their money and many re nain permanently attracted by your leUghtful climate, and great natural esources." ro JSP, Kdwnrd A. The republican party cannot better re up to the noble spirit of its begln ng than by putting tho United ales into leadership in the League Nations. JACKSON COUNTY LINCOLN CLUU Wullnee McCamant, candidate Tor delegate at large to the republican national convention, has lived in Portland for thirty years, lie was a delegate to the republican national convention of 1S9U which nominated McKlnloy and llobart; also to the convention of 1S00 which nominated McKinley and Roosevelt, lie was a member of the supreme court of Ore gon for a year and a half, resigning his office in June, 19 IS. Judge McCamant bus been active for many years in tliu patriotic work of the community. lie Is president of the Oregon Socioty Sons of the American ltovolution and commander of the Oregon Commandery of the Loyal Legion. Judge McCamant favors legislation and departmental orders providing that the failure to answer a proper letter from any citi zen within a reasonable time should be a ground for the discharge of the employe responsible therefor.
