Friday morning they brought out Fred Warren of Trail and two ladies. Kick Young, Ed Clements and Har ry Lewis were with us Friday noon and Harry Lewis and John Hayliern spent Friday night here. Mr. anil Mrs. Frederick Pelouse and son Bob took supper at the Snn nyside Friday evening. Mrs, Pelouse and Bob had come from Medford and stopped here and Bob -went up home for bis father and we bad one of those good old fashioned visits such as one can )inve with people of that class. The reader will bear in mind that Bob has .just left the hospital and is just getting over an attack of spinal meningitis, where be was hov ering between life and death for sev eral weeks, and now is home on a furlough of MO days to recuperate in our healthy climate while visiting his parents. WJiile he has lost some flesh, Li pounds in weight, still he looks hale and hearty and can see no serious results. The meeting Friday night in the in terest of the W.,S. S. mote proved to be an abundant success. There were 75 in attendance. The meeting wns called to order by Dr. Holt and the object announced. Our school clerk, W. C. Clements, acted as secretary. After the rcports'of the different so licitors were in the clerk announced that the amount subscribed so far amounted to $3,425 of Our appor tionment. Mrs. W. L. Childreth lead as she reported $1,875 subscrib ed on her list. After the work of raising money was through then the W. S. S. socictv was organized by the election of Mrs. W. L. Childreth as president and W. C. Clements as secretary, when we adjourned feeling a willingness to redouble our efforts to down the Hun. Nobel Zimmerman, W'bo has been working at Hilt for several months, eume out on Ibje P. & E. Saturdnv morning on his way to Blue Cunyon to visit bis parents, Mr. and VMrs. Zimmerman. He was met at the train by his sister, Mrs. Maud Lindmen. Mrs. Charles Pruett gave a little social last Saturday night in honor of one of her neighbor boys, John Singleton, who has lieen ordered to report for military duty. There were only a fjew of her near neighbors in attendance, among whom were Air. Last Sunday morning at the close of the Sunday school exercises, the call was made for birthday offerings. The Sunday school has a right to ask for birthday offerings and those who havo had a birthday during tho past week are requested to contribute a penny for each year of their ago for the benefit of tho missionary cause, and on that occasion Grandma Curtis walked forward and. deposited elghly nino pennies in the contribution bor, indicating that sho was eighty-nine years of age. Emmot Plel who has beon engaged working In the Lake Creek mine for the past month, came out- Tuesday morning and took the P. & 13. for Medford. A man by the name of Sears, while working in the Ed Walker logging camp, had his knee quite badly hurt. He was standing near where they were hauling in logs for shipment when the log that was being dragged by the donkey engine caught against a stump causing It to swerve side ways and caught him hurting him qulto (badly, but my informant did not know how badly. Wm. Perry who now owns tho nnrt of the old John Mathews place that fell to Polk Mnthews and that he, Polk, willed to Polk and Corbot Smith, reports that somo of his wheat is so badly Injured bv tho extreme cold and hot weather that he has to cut it fpr hay and that In addition to his clover and alfalfa is runijlng his hay crop up into over a hundred tons. But Will is one of the 'best farmers in this country and docs farming right. Word has come to us from Ashland that ono of our old neighbors, Mrs. A. II. Peachey, of that city, is down with that malignant and dangerous disoaso diphtheria, and that will ston many, if not all, hero from going to the celebration or round-up. Her many friends here are hoping for her speedy recovery. There are quite a lot of tourists passing thru here every day on their way to Crater Lake and eastern Ore gon. There was a family slonnod here Tuesday evening to havo our black smith tlo some repair work on their auto. They were rrom Pendleton, Ore., and seemed to bo enjoying tho-r trip very much. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Henderson ar rived here Monday from imperial Valley, Cal., right joining tho Mexi can border; to .visit .Mrs. Henderson's parents, Mr. and .Mrs. B. F.
